What feature/spec will make you upgrade?

The Pixel 3 is one of the 2 or 3 best phones I've owned. It's pretty much everything I wanted from the Pixel 2.
This will be the only phone other than the Nexus 6 that I've used as daily phone for 2+ years. Don't see any compelling reasons to switch until we stop getting security updates which takes us at least through Oct. 2021.

As a senior citizen (just barely!!!) I need more onboard storage. Have the 3XL 64GB and it juuuuust works for me. Being able to offload pics keeps me afloat, but I always seem to be hovering around the 50-55GB used area, and that's with a reasonable music library (500 songs), two to three full length hi-def movies, etc. I go thru apps regularly to thin what I'm just not using but still get OCD about storage when it dips below 20%.

Old also means cheapskate. The $1000 ceiling is REALLY hard for me to bump up against. I'm holding out upgrading until October to see what the Pixel 5 looks like, but for me, Samsung is back in consideration if I can get an S10, or even a Note 10 at a "been on the market a while" discount.

See for me, I have the base pixel 4 XL 64 gig. I also don't have any onboard music or photos paired everything for me is in the cloud. For example, Google play music, Google photos etc I use the Google cloud for everything. I'm also not a music lover so for me streaming music is not a big deal. For movies, all I have on my phone during the pandemic and the quarantine is sling TV no onboard stored movies. I used to download movies onto my phone but this was years ago before streaming services became so popular. Lol. I mean if you need more onboard storage either get that bigger pixel or another device with more onboard storage or expandable memory.

No doubt the cloud and streaming services are now a huge convenience, but when traveling, long road trips, out of country, etc - I'm not always able to "stay connected". I've had Note's before, so if I can pick up a Note 10 with 256Gb for less than $700US in a few months, or an S10 w/ expandable storage for the same, I'm tempted to go that route - unless the 5 is released with larger memory at a reasonable price. I keep pinning hopes that they are using the 2nd tier chip w/ integrated 5G as a cost saving measure.

Yeah believe me I hear you! I mean there are many other Android devices on the market that I have more expandable memory options. You are right about traveling internationally or in flight without any internet connectivity options. I don't travel that much so for me it's not a big deal at all. But yeah with other Android phones like I said, they have more storage options for sure.

I've had my Pixel 3xl since original release date. It's the first time since the Nexus one that I didn't upgrade to a newer model.

I can't justify thousand dollar phones anymore. When Nexus phones were under $600 and I could get about half selling my old one, it was a viable proposition.

I'm at the point where this phone could keep running for 5 years and I'll be happy with it's performance.

What would make me upgrade is when battery life starts dying, performance starts degrading, or the phone just isn't supported anymore.

That being said, as of late, I've been having extreme lag in touch and response issues. It's very disappointing. It's something that could push me over the edge.

See for me, my Pixel 3 XL is doing just fine. No lags no hesitations of any kind. Can't wait for Android 11 beta to come out soon!

Does that also happen in Safe Mode? If so, it could be worth backing everything up and doing a factory reset. A hassle, yes, but might help.

Haven't tried in safe mode. Never actually used safe mode before. I really hate doing factory resets.

Yeah, trust me as much as doing the factory reset sucks: If your pixel 3X on Android 10 is running lagging and sluggishly to respond, I might say just that as well because it shouldn't be like that.

Yeah, there's a lot of times I'm swiping my finger across the screen to scroll a page or something and no reaction. Other times a delay typing on my keyboard with no response then a second later all my taps show up.

oh well, damn I'm so sorry to hear that! Yeah no Pixel 3 XL running Android 10 should ever respond like that! Definitely run in safe mode, and/or wipe the phone back everything up and hard reset it. My phone's buttery smooth!

I have a feeling it's an app someone sent me to circumvent the "paid" version. I just deleted it. I'll see if that helps. I'm kind of thinking I need a factory reset anyway though.

ah, okay. Well, good luck keep us updated. remove that paid application and try to reset the phone a couple times to see if that works without hard resetting the phone!

If you have a screen protector on, it may also be worth taking it off as a test.

I've seen them get a little loose, which might interfere with the touch sensitivity. Anyway, try Safe Mode first.

Do you mind if I ask why you have two full movies on your device at all times?

I concur with everything you have listed except for that. I have a few offline playlists, and some recent photos on my device, and I'm good with 64 GB of storage. But I could see how two full movies would put me over the top.
If the are for trips, couldn't you just download them off the cloud the night before a flight or something? That's what I'd do.
Then again, I try to be a minimalist as much as I can. So different strokes, of course

Secure folder (similar to the Samsung one UI), bezel less 6 - 6.5 inch screen with 90hz or 120hz dynamic screen refresh rate and option to create and launch app pairs are some of them I would love to see in next Pixel.
