I kinda miss it
Check to make sure your volume isn't muted before reboot. If it is, the droid sound won't play.

Funny how people are. You miss the sound and I can't wait to get rid of it!
The sound file is system/media/droidpu.ogg.
?snip?
P.S. I think I just solved it. I decided to reboot my phone. When the first popup screen comes up, it shows power down, airplane mode, & below it 3 icons. One is a speaker with a line thru it, the next an icon for vibrate, and third a speaker with no line through it. I pressed the speaker with no line through it, then power down, & ok. When I booted it up, the Droid sound was back, so I think they're giving the user the option of sound on boot up. Either way it's about 1/5 the volume of the Droid boot sound on my old Incredible. That was loud when it was on!

Me too! I wish I could get rid of all the reboot sounds

If you're rooted, you can boot with write access & change the name to droidpu.ogg.bak.
See my post on the prior page. You'll have to root & boot with write access.
That's just the quick way to turn the speaker off, vibrate only, and on. If you press one of them you'll see the icon change in the status bar. You can then press back or home and continue with the sound option you want. I believe those have always been there, though they really should be on the notification shade setting toggles screen IMHO.
Also, there really isn't a need for volume control in the notification shade, when there are volume buttons on the side. Holding the volume down button will get you to the same place with only maybe a second of difference.
