What happened to the small phone?

Awesome! How are you liking it?

It's a great phone. It has 4GB RAM, 64 internal storage, dual sim slots & sd storage slot, octa-core CPU snapdragon chip, dual camera and 3080mah battery. Some people say battery isn't that good, but it has HD screen unlike full HD and thus battery lasts quite well because of it. And most of all, it didn't cost much, only $224. It's stock launcher MIUI is also quite good and the only app I changed from stock was music player, anything else I left stock. It came with transparent case as well. Before that I helped my wife to buy phone and we chose for her Xiaomi redmi 5 plus, which is also very great phone. Only differences are that redmi 5 plus has corning glass screen, metal corpus, full HD screen and better battery (4000mah). But since my wife already had it, I decided to go with different phone and plus I wanted better camera than bigger battery, so I chose S2 & I'm totally ok with HD screen. I mainly use phone for calling and reading news on my break & sometimes taking photos. So this phone with it's price was perfect and I doubt I could find anything better for me with same price at this moment on market. In my opinion Xiaomi is best budget brand. Very pleased with this phone :)

Except that there are in terms of actual phone sizes. Screen size is the wrong thing to base on when talking about "big phones." For example, when you compare the 5.8inch S9 and the 5inch Pixel 2, you'd think the S9 is that much bigger, except that they're actually the same size.
But only flagship phones have small bezels with that screen size. If u look at the current available phones under $300, there's Moto G6, Honor 9 Lite, etc which have sizeable bezels making it not really comparable to the 5 inch phones of yesteryear. In any case I've already accepted phones will continue to get bigger.

That would depend on models available to you. Samsung released in my country the Galaxy A6, a phone with a 5.6inch screen that is close to the same size as a Pixel 2 (less than a mm wider and 4mm taller) and costs around 250USD when converted.

There are also several comparable models as well from Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo, I believe. I live in Asia so we have a surplus of options here with regards to pricing and size.

I remember watching hours of motorsport and tv shows on my 3ish inch HTC desire don't know how I used to manage it compared to the monster phones today.
Right!?

I once watched an entire movie on my Nokia N80's 2.1inch display, to this day, I do not know how on earth I did it!

I watched many movies on my 2.8 inch Samsung and 3.2 inch Nokia, then on my 4 Inch Lumia, then the 4.3 inch Moto and now on my 5 inch Redmi. Its hard to imagine watching movies/TV on 4 Inch device but at that time they were considered big and our eyes were conditioned to see it as big enough for multimedia. But now since our eyes are used to big screens, it wouldn't be able to tolerate going back to smaller screens.

Ever since I have had a bigger phone, I have missed the portability of a smaller device. But now after all of that is gone and done, I do enjoy larger phones, but the unwieldiness of using a larger device is not worth it. Between the size, the weight with a case, and the constant falling it is more trouble than it is worth. I genuinely miss smaller devices now.

I have a Pixel 2 and I'm constantly swinging it upright to use it; or using it one-handed. Bigger phones do have things like one-handed mode to make things easier, but it'd still be difficult for me to wield a big phone with small hands. What phone do you have at the moment?

All the big phones one handed modes are half measures anyways. I am still using a 6S Plus. 2 1/2 years later after I got it in the VZW store. Turned out to be quite a reliable day to day phone. But I am tired of trying to use a big phone daily. You get used to how to handle it, but doesn't make up for still being terrible sometimes to use.

You are right: one-handed modes are good attempts but don't make up for the real thing. My good friend has the 6S Plus too and loves it! It does seem like a very good phone. Do you think you'll upgrade to a smaller phone?

Pixel 2 is not a small phone. Its almost same size as S9. Small would be something like the original Moto X or the new Xperia XZ2C.

I suppose it's on the "bigger end" of the smaller device world, eh?

My brother has the iPhone SE and that is a small but awesome beast. Obviously not Android, but one of the first that comes to mind when I think of a small phone.

Most definitely. I’m still trying to figure out do I stay with iOS or go back to Android though.

Exactly same thing I say for many reasons but before when I didn’t have an office or any desktop extra tablets laying around with work and school the bigger device helped a lot but those days are over lol l now I want nothing to do with these big phones...i stoped upgrading at 5s....held that for years I started with G1 bronze it was such a big deal back then. I’m really hoping for a galaxy 2018 mini no larger than 4.8 for now the j series would do....i dont do banking or non of that on my phone. I pay bills when I get home

Agreed. I simply cannot go back to smaller displays.
