What I have learned about charging

I discovered something interesting over the past couple of days about how my TB reacts to different charging cycles. Sunday evening my TB was charging when I got called to work. It was not completely charged and drained at a rapid rate. I got home around 1:00am and put the TB back on charge when I went to sleep. I got up at 5:30am and the TB appeared to be fully charged, but drained very quickly and was basically dead by noon. Now normally I get a full day out of it, but since it stayed on the charger for longer than it needed to, it seemed to drain much faster.

Last evening, I charged the TB as usual and it was fully charged by 9:30 pm at which time I took it off the charger. It is now 14 hours later and I'm still at 80% (very light usage today).

I don't know about anyone else, but my TB seems to perform much better with battery life if I take it off the charger as soon as it is done as opposed to leaving on the charger longer than needed.

Thats because your phone was in sleep mode for 14hours. You weren't using any power of the phone cause you were sleeping. I bet by 5 or 6 if you use your phone like you did the day you had to goto work the battery would be dead, or at least have a significant loss of power.

You could be right but I have heard that some batteries work better when removed from the charger soon as it shows they're charged. I guess that's ok IF you're watching for the green charged light on your phone but I'm not about to hang around my phone just to monitor that.

The Thunderbolt actually goes into a charge/discharge cycle once it's fully charged. If you use something like Battery Monitor Widget to graph the current draw, you will see it repeatedly charge for 15 minutes and then discharge for 15 minutes. I've found that if disconnect it from the charger near the end of the discharge part of the cycle, the battery level will drop almost immediately to 95%.

Is it true your phone doesn't sleep when its hooked to a charger? I also found that if I take my phone off the charger when its finished, I get much longer battery life...I do this when I go to bed when I'm not going to be using the phone..it just seems like it sleeps when its off the charger..
