What if I don't want to "call on speakerphone"?

When I make calls from my bluetooth headset my phone makes the call on speakerphone. This is extremely frustrating and defeats the purpose of hands free voice dialing if I have to manually switch a call to my headset.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Is the handsfree voice dialing feature through Google, or is it specific to that phone?

I started a thread to try and point this problem out to Google here:

But it has fallen on deaf ears. Google do not appear to care at all that this is broken.
