So I've had this phone for almost 2 months.... and I've been hearing about "Launchers". I just want to know what they are, and what the best one is (PREFERABLY: free and VERY customizable). Thanks!

"A launcher presents the main view of the phone and is responsible for starting other apps and hosting live widgets."

copy pasta straight from Wikipedia.org. I believe the default is NOVA but I switched to Go Launcher, which is about the same but better and more customizable.

Stock is touchwiz. But the rest of your response is right on.

Go launcher is malware.

Which is the best, most customizable, free one? Or can I only pick 2 of the 3 lol.

Launchers I've been hearing a lot about (doing some research on em, to see which is best/most customizable) are: Go Launcher, Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher...

I've tried Nova, Go Launcher, and Apex, and I always go back to Apex...

It'd be awesome if someone could explain the different customizations of each launcher if possible?!

Well I pretty much run nova exclusively since I paid for it. I don't know all the options in apex.

There's jillion little settings in each. My problem with NOVA is you have to pay for the good stuff. Just download them all and try them out.

Trust me...

Free one that offers all the features that the paid version of Nova and Apex have is Go Launcher. It will lure you into all their other products though. They are to pushy with their apps on my opinion but good in terms of free.

Apex and Nova go hand and hand. Pretty much equals in the paid version but Apex offers more in the free version. Nova I think has the best paid version and it is the most customizable. But Apex is basically the same, Nova just seems faster.

So yeah if you want free go with Go Launcher. You want paid go with Nova.

Again, go launcher is malware. Go take a look on XDA and read a few threads. You will delete that crap off your phone as fast as you can.

Nova is the best one I have tried, for this phone. I have tried go launcher, apex, iLauncher, and Nova. Apex was superior on my old phone the Evo LTE, but for some reason Nova runs much nicer on the gs3.

I think it's worth the extra $4 for a good launcher, my phone lags much less now.

So which is it fellas?!

I used GO Launcher Pro for 1 1/2 years. It's free and offers a plethora (sorry about that word) of customizations. I also use GO SMS Pro (also free) exclusively. However, I began experiencing quite a few restarts for no apparent reason. And several times, all my home screens went blank and I had to re-install them, mostly from memory. But, in one of the Forums, Skunkape60 recommended Nova Launcher, so I tried it. After a couple of hours experimenting with it, I upgraded to the paid version and I've been extremely happy with it. As much as I enjoyed the customization of GO Launcher Pro, I like Nova Launcher even more. You can customize it just as much as GO Launcher, and even more. I haven't any negative experiences and I highly recommend it. Give the free version a try and see if you like it enough to upgrade to the paid version.

How's the battery life when running a launcher?

You would be surprised. I haven't noticed any difference at all in battery life with Nova. That being said, I do notice drain when using iLauncher.
