What is an easy way to backup my HTC One V before I root?

I am extremely skeptical about rooting. I am sick and tired of having to change settings and alter habits to juice great speed out of my 1 Ghz Proccesor. I want to root, because I want to overclock my phone so it can be as fast as it can be with the least bugs and glitches. I can't risk buying another phone and going through the same, so I want a way to backup my HTC One V so that if it gets bricked or stuck during the process of rooting or unlocking my bootloader, I have something to fall back on. If I mess up, I'm not getting a new phone. So please help me, I know I sound lazy for not doing more research but the way others explain is far too complex.

Thank You

First, I don't think you can overclock with just root. I think you need a custom kernel for that. Second, Unlocking your bootloader is relatively safe, but you are going to have to go commando there. The only thing you can do is put all your music and photos on your computer. You can also sync your contacts with gmail. That's all you can do because unlocking your bootloader wipes your phone completely. To fully backup your phone, you need a recovery which you cannot have unless you unlock your bootloader. So unlock it first and then flash a recovery to backup your stuff if you are going to flash a rom or kernel.
