What is eating away my data in the background?

I will try to do it tomorrow. There r plenty of pages like that, I just didn't want mine that way. I like them too. But getting reported n Banned is a big pain n the ass.

make sure you use wifi as much as possible to save on data.. we have 4 phones on our shared plus an aircard and we are only at 4.50 gb for the month. most everything we do is over wifi

yeah - sure i do that. but working in a big company taking their wifi is no option. registring and everything...

so at the moment I handle by turning off sync. then it is in control - but i need to manually check for mails - still get messages from whatsapp and alike. weird and overall unpleasant compared to iphone.

so - all of you without data+battery problems have sync off and only do it manually?

If it wasn't for this app I wouldn't have never guessed that Trust Go was somehow using so much of my freaking data... I still don't know how it used 336 MB...
Old thread, but I have to add a comment here. TrustGo has had issues with data usage I think, supposed to be fixed now according to their supportdesk. On my device (S2) it used 1.7 GB mobile data and 3.2 GB of WiFi data in one month (dec-12), never had any reason to check data usage frequently before this so I was taken by surprise... Problem was supposedly that I could by accident have unchecked the "allow automatic updates" when installing app. Still don't trust it enough to allow it to use background data outside WiFi though.

1.) Disable google backup and restore. This feature automatically backs up whatever apps you install; you can see why this would consume a lot of data.
(Although it can be helpful in the future i.e. if you wipe your phone, since you can't pick and choose which apps you want restored, you'll get lumped with all the junk that you removed too)

Settings > Backup and reset > Untick 'Automatic Restore' and 'Back Up My Data'

2.) Disable account synchronization.
Settings > Accounts and Sync > Off

Hope this helps you as it helped me :)

Hey OP, I'm having literally the exact same problem (the same system apps are eating my data up) - it's the most frustrating thing ever, get through my monthly data allowance in 3 days... Have you found a solution?

Have you tried any of the suggestions already provided in this thread? That would be the place to start.

OP's problem was never solved and I tried every suggestion (for a few months now). I have the exact same issue: OS data solely in the background and very high.

I think I figured it out. My phone also said Android OS used about 500MB. It is because when you update it, that is what it goes under.

When I go to Application Management and close things off that are running, some of them don't close off??? for instance the keyboard....also google takes a long time to close off, and sometimes don't close at all...I have only had my phone a couple of wks and it used all the data in one wk....I am a little apprehensive to even use the phone....(Only for calls and texts) shouldn't have to do that...should I??? Someone said to put everything as wifi and only use facebook...etc when have wifi around...I really am confused on how to use the phone properly without using all my data, I have 250mb at the moment, I am going up to 500mb on 1st April, as I am a little apprehensive about how I am using all this data....pleas help.

Welcome to the forums!

To limit the data that gets used, from any Home screen press the Menu button (the lighted button to the left of the physical Home button), select Settings -> Data usage -> press the Menu button again -> select 'Restrict background data' -> in the pop-up dialog select 'OK' -> press the Menu button again -> deselect 'Auto sync data' -> in the pop-up dialog select 'OK'

It may be enough to just restrict background data and leave 'Auto sync data' enabled - you can play around with the latter setting and see if this meets your needs.

If you'd prefer pictures (some people work better that way) I can post screenshots of the menu selections.
