What is FakeClearCut?

[Android Central Question]

I was in the Battery Optimization settings yesterday and noticed an app named FakeClearCut for which no battery optimization was available. I looked at the app info, and it could not be uninstalled. Does anyone know what this is? It sounds like malware, but I can find nothing about it in any search. Thanks.

If it is malware, chances are good that Malwarebytes can identify it. So, try a scan with Malwarebytes. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. Malwarebytes didn't find anything. Neither did any other malware scanner. Do not feel wholly comfortable about it.

I have it also.

I also note that it's been there from when I first set the phone up and it also shows up in safe mode. This makes me suspect it's more likely to be a system app than anything malevolent.
