What is number next to Samsung Gear apps?

Sometimes there is a number next to the menu item, what's that number?

Number of apps need to be updated. Not very accurate.

So how do you know which ones need updated?

You tap that line and open Galaxy apps/Gear apps. Then go to menu->Purchased. There you will see a tab named updates. Most time than not, all the apps have already automatically been updated.
