What is rooting?

It gives you greater control - 'privileged access' I think is the term used - over your device and its settings and features. It's usually done via a PC, which I for one don't have, any more than I have the desire to VOID MY WARRANTY which is what rooting usually does.
I'd add a link to an Ambassador Guide but there doesn't seem to be one.

Rooting is like System Administrator for Windows. It grants all access to anything in the OS. This is a double edged sword, as actions done with this access can cause damage to the device.
