This morning I played some mp3's for about an hour and a half on my s6 with the Samsung music player and lost 20% of my battery. When I checked what was using my battery system (mediaserver) was at the top. I've never seen this listed though in my battery usage before. Seems like alot of battery drain for just listening to non streaming music with the screen off

The media server listing doesn't surprise me. The 20% drain listening to music does. Can you post a screenshot of the battery stats, please?

Media server is for when you are playing media

Sent from my Pearly White Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Go into app setting media clear data, cache and force close then restart device thatll get rid of it

Moto X 2014

As a test, I used Samsung Music Player to play a 30min MP3 file. My battery went from 94% to 93% so I think something else is happening to you.

Hmm I've noticed the fast battery drain every time I play music with the stock music player. When I look at battery usage for the music player it is very low though but it only seems to happen when I use it.

Have you tried the Smart Manager app? If not, run it, touch the battery icon and it'll list any apps causing excessive battery usage. I found that a Sports Score app was excessive and I wasn't even using it.

I have verizon and I believe the smart manager app is not on the verizon version. This only has happened when playing music and media server was using the most battery

So I tried playing some music again today and mediaserver jumped to the the top of my battery usage again. I did a search online and found people with the same problem but it all related to the SD card which the s6 don't have so I have no idea

So this problem is still going on and getting worse. Playing MP3'S for about an hour will take my battery from 95% to 70% Also my phone bogs down and sometimes I can't even skip a song because the ram is dangerously low. My day usually goes like this. Take the phone off at 100% charge at 5:40 am. Play local mp3 music from 6:30 to 7:30. I then turn off the music and only use my phone for 10 minutes on my break and not touch it until I go to lunch at noon. At noon I'll be at anywhere from 20-40% battery. System (mediaserver)is usually the culprit

If I remember correctly, mediaserver is like an index for media. I looked into it when I had my old old phone because every time I put an image on my phone mediaserver would start up, yet the image could not be 'seen' in some applications even though I could see it the gallery. After mediaserver stopped, other applications could see it. This and a few other pointers led to the conclusion that it's an indexer for media files. At regular intervals plus each time media files are accessed, mediaserver will run to update itself.
