What is the advantage of getting the 128 or 256 gig version of there is a micro SD slot?

All depends on your habits, of how many pictures you take, how much music you have, and how many apps you want.

The answer is if you don't know why you would pay more, chances are you don't need the extra internal storage. I know I don't.

I'm just confused as to why you would want more internal storage if you can expand the memory with an SD card.......

A few reasons.

- Not everything can be put on a SD card. Not all apps or all data.
- Performance from the SD can can be slower than from internal storage - but depending on the app and data, you may or may not see any noticeable difference.
-Last time I checked, Google Photos still has issues deleting from SD cards (unless they fixed that recently - I use a Pixel XL now).

Whether these are worth the extra $ is up to the user. Personally I want the internal storage, but it is definitely not "needed" for most folks if an SD card is present ..

Last I heard, photos and music could be put on cards and people preferred that. Apps were harder, if at all, and not recommended. That's why if you're a heavy app user, get the higher storage.

SD cards are usually only good for storing media and are significantly slower than internal memory. If you need storage for a lot of apps or games, you need it to be internal. If you want a bunch of videos, photos, music, documents, and similar, than external storage will work fine.

I've got an S7, even though the camera is set to use the sd card, anything shot in RAW with pro mode and burst photos save directly to the device storage still because it's faster.

Have the 64 gig Note 5 and all the apps that I need and I still have 22 gigs left so I'm thinking if I get the Note 8 the base version would be best for me

Yes you are fine, no need to pay up for 256 gb.

I have 128gb on my S8 Plus. Only thing on it is pictures, movies, and music. But I have over 50 gb worth of music. SD cards are perfect for that.
