What is the best Facebook alternative?

As other users have stated, a really good article written here on Android Central about uninstalling Facebook (the app) and using the mobile browser site instead is a great alternative. I have often used my mobile browser as an alternative to Facebook in the past; with my BlackBerry and sometimes on my Android devices. Plus, you can still use Messenger as an app on your phone; so you'll still get your messages instantly. Apparently you won't see the check-ins of your friends, etc., but I feel like there are more alternatives to drawbacks when you use the mobile browser! And the article even states that you can use your drop-down notification drawer to get your Facebook browser notifications. Very innovative!

So, in short... Read the article. :) There are more benefits of using the mobile browser in there!

I read that article long before I started this thread, but as I said, I want a wrapper for facebook, and don't want to use the browser for various reasons. I have installed Metal, and after a couple of days, I like it so far. Thanks for the suggestions folks!

Umm...personal interaction? LOL

Just kidding. Try just using the Chrome notification features. I've found, as has Russell Holly, that it really helps the battery life.

Friendcaster for Android is the best alternative to the Facebook app or site I've seen. Does everything the fb app is SUPPOSED to do

Can you elaborate on this app?

Friendcaster? Don't bother... OneLouder stopped development a while ago. I think Facebook might have shut down how it gathered data. It was a good app when it was active though.

Metal is good, and it does Twitter in the same app too.

Many thanks, I will give Metal a run for its money :)

Friendcaster used to be great, then they stopped developing it. I tried Metal but could not even do something as simple as sharing a link from Twitter. It just kept spinning and doing nothing. If they fixed that problem, I would use it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Update: I was able to share links using another method. Will continue to test this app.

I'm curious... what is it that you DON'T like about Folio?

I actually did like Folio for the short time that I used it. But as tx_tuff said, after installing it on both my N6P and N9, both rebooted on their own for no apparent reason. The N9 did it a couple of times, and the N6P did it immediately upon opening the app after install. I blamed Folio but that could be coincidence - but my phone nor tablet has ever randomly rebooted prior to this. So I uninstalled the app on both devices.

I just use the web browser. It's faster, little to no issues and I don't have to worry about it running in the background collecting data.

I used to use an app called Klyph, it was pretty decent but I haven't used it in a while.

Might check this metal out, see if it's got a dark theme...

I've tried Metal, now trying Folio. No force closes, just want to determine which is better.
