What is the best small smartphone for a guy who uses a flip phone?

My hubby loves his little flip phone...it fits in a small pocket, is simple to use and gives him no problems. But as we start a new business, he has realized that he needs to be able to access email, photos, internet and some simple apps like a mileage tracker.

What do you suggest? Our carrier is AT&T, but we're OK with getting an unlocked whatever.

Unfortunately the smallest devices all have one or the other major drawbacks. Let me ask you one question, though.
What phone do you use? Because if he is happy with the size of the device you have he might have a good idea of he may like or not.

In really small basic phones Moto E, Honor 8, Sony X Compact, Google Pixel come to mind as these are all around 5 inches. All come factory unlocked and have relatively decent specs and a wide price range.

Good luck.

I'd go Moto E, Sony X, Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC10, iPhone 8 as the best choices. If you want smaller, I think they still sell the iPhone 5SE, then you have to look at the mid range Androids like Galaxy A series, LG K series, Sony XA, and a whole bunch from Lenovo, Vivo, Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo.

Although if he loves his flip phone and simply needs those other stuff, why not just get a small tablet with LTE/3G capabilities, or a mobile hotspot? Maybe an iPad Mini, Tab S2 8inch, Nvidia Shield, or Tab A 8inch? No need to replace the phone, especially since simpler feature phones like flip phones last a good deal longer on a single charge compared to smartphones.

A small phone won't be ideal for pictures since it would be, well, small.

I have a Note 5 (hoping to upgrade to the Note 8 soon). He also has an Iphone for work, but I don't know the model number. His company supplies refurbed phones so they're not the most recent models; he can't put personal apps or any person info on his work phone. But whatever the model, he'd like something smaller.

Oh, and I forgot, we boycott everything LG in this house. Very bad experience with them, no more purchases from us!

I honestly doubt you can get smaller than an iPhone but still be workable. You'll be going to lower end spectrum with rather spotty performance. Lots of apps are incompatible, small storage so even if apps are compatible, not all of those you need will fit.

However that said, Android phones are usually smaller than their iPhone counterparts. For example, an S7 Edge is smaller than an iPhone 7 Plus despite having the same screen size. An S7 is about the same size as the small iPhone 7 despite having a bigger screen.

Since you have a Note 5, I suggest sticking to Samsung since it's familiar, but Moto and Sony phones are good too.

I too would recommend either sticking with a familiar OS like Samsung; or a smaller Moto variant. Moto phones have a great range of prices and features - I feel like they're one of the most versatile mobile companies out there.

I would definitely recommend an iPhone SE unlocked from our sister site imore or Swappa.
Great deals for that phone especially if he already has an iPhone from work.

I absolutely second the iPhone SE. My boyfriend has it and its really good. Good battery life, audio, and camera. I can't believe his phone's performance under low battery. And it has great pocketability.
