I currently own an iphone 4 and am patiently (kind of) waiting for the GS3. I thought it would be a good idea to start getting familiar with android before I get that purdy GS3 in my hands.

I am currently talking to someone about a trade consisting of my iphone 4 which i would say is in "fair" condition (has a few knicks and scratches on the back. I bought it on launch day) 16 gb with otter box, charging matt, and charging matt case for an infuse (which has a small ding in the corner but is still in good condition) plus 30 bucks.

Would you make the trade (from a value standpoint)? And what are infuses worth?

I know they have been out for a while. But do not know if they are considered "old" or "outdated"

Any input would be great. Thanks:cool:

Thanks for the info! Now its between the infuse and gaining 30 bucks. Or trading for a skyrocket and paying 150. This will be just a phone to use untill the gs3 launches.

I should go with the infuse but I WANT to get the skyrocket:p

Personally, I would just wait for the SIII, unless you are having issues with the iPhone. The SIII has been announced to launch in the U.S. for the summer, so it won't be like last year with that ridiculous 6 month waiting gap that the U.S. had for the SII (I think American carriers finally learned that Americans know that the iPhone is the not the only smart phone and that the Samsung S lines can be appreciated here as well).

Still, I imagine "summer" could mean anything from late June to perhaps even August, or (hope not) September.

The Infuse is not a bad phone (and especially when compared to an iPhone 4, they are about the same "worth" I'd say), but it ships on Froyo (unless the person selling it to you has already updated to Gingerbread), with TouchWiz 3.0 (the newest version of TouchWiz on the SIIs is TouchWiz 4.0, although the SIII has an even newer TouchWiz). The Gingerbread update on the Infuse also was rather shoddily done - it has a lot of bugs and I remember when I updated to it, I had so many issues, even after factory resetting and whatnot.

Anyhow, if you really want a new toy to tinker with before the SIII comes out and absolutely cannot wait, then I'd say get the Infuse instead of the Skyrocket. The Skyrocket is a much better phone, but when you're only going to be using it for at max 3 months or so and then upgrading to the SIII (which will probably cost over $200, perhaps even near $250 ~ $300 with a 2 year contract), I'd say just save money.

P.S. I gave you the advice with the assumption that you're interested in using the phone as it comes. If you're interested in rooting and flashing custom ROMs, then it's a different story. However, I do advise, it is very time consuming because if you are at all a perfectionist/OCD like I am, it will take a lot of time because you'll want to try every "awesome" ROM out there and then want to flash yet another one (the flashing itself doesn't take too long). Custom ROMs for the Infuse 4G help to upgrade the user experience vastly, but each custom ROM I've used also had a few bugs here and there (official ROMs from AT&T are by no means bug-free either).

Wow. Couldnt have asked for better advice. THANK YOU.

I prolly wouldnt keep the phone as it comes. This would also give me a chance to learn about rooting and ROMs. I still havent decided what I am going to do yet:-\

Rooting and flashing custom ROMs is definitely not rocket science. However, I do warn you, we always get handfuls of people who do not follow all the steps exactly as written and then end up bricking their phone. The Infuse is actually a very good phone for tinkering with custom ROMs because it is virtually impossible to hard brick (most people freak out when they soft brick, but that's easily reversible with ODIN or Heimdall back to stock kits).

I'd definitely recommend that you check out the Infuse forum at XDA Developers. That is where you'll find everything you need to know about flashing custom ROMs (rooting isn't even a process in my mind, rooting takes like 2 minutes. Flashing custom ROMs though, that requires careful reading and studying before jumping the gun).

Seriously thank you so much for the info.

Just picked up an infuse on craigslist for 100 bucks! I am going to start looking at the XDA Developers forum now. My iphone should be on ebay in less than 24 hours if anyone is interested;)

I'd first recommend that you try out using it as stock first so that you "learn" Android (and TouchWiz) since you're used to having an iPhone. It's also better that way so that later when you tinker with custom ROMs, you are familiar with the OS and terminologies.

As far as custom ROMs go, the Zeus ROM and the Revelation ROM are pretty solid. Mind you, custom ROMs also can bring about unexpected issues or need for trouble shooting, so first familiarize yourself with stock.

A year ago, June 2, 2011 I have purchased a Samsung Infuse smart phone,
hoping to offer even better services to my clientele with the help of a new, advanced technology.
While using for a month or two I found out, that he phone has a few issues, which were greatly affecting the quality of the business I was conducting.

1. Dropped Calls
2. Reception quality ( muffled voice )
3. Extremely short Battery life
4. Faulty screen ( when held it next to the face, the screen often stays active, and
The user?s skin contacting the screen activates functions, such as ending the
call, dialing other numbers, etc. )
5. Camera ( in most of the times, the user cannot turn the camera off, the screen Freezes, and the only way to get the phone working is to restart the device )
6. Low speakerphone volume
7. Without warning, the device Turns itself off then back on

so

IT ISN'T WORTH A PENNY !!! DON'T BUY IT !!!

Gee, and your first post.

I have not experenced any of your problems. And I have flash various roms. I get 12-18 hrs per charge, depending on my usage and where my job takes me too.

My camera has never frozen. The only reboots that I've had were because of the rom that I flashed. And as long as I keep the proximity sensor clean, my screen turns off and on when it;s suppose to.

As far as dropped calls: AT&T more dropped calls then any other carrier.
