What is the proper way to keep your battery charged

My wife and I both have the Note10. Came from the Galaxy S7 Edge.
I have a battery question. What is the proper way to maintain your battery?
I have read that you should let your battery get real low then charge it up to full. I also read where you should keep it topped off
instead of letting it get low. By low I am talking around 10% to 20%.
I just want my battery to last. My S7 Edge got to where the battery would need multiple charges during the day with minimal usage compared to when it was new.

You're going to get a few different perspectives on that. Here are a couple of links to start you off with:

My general habits are as follows:

1. Try not to let the battery get below 30-40% on a regular basis. Once in a while is ok, but doing it on a daily basis could contribute to shortening the overall battery ife.
2. Charge up to 100%. Some people advocate stopping at 80-90%, but from a real-world usage standpoint, this is not that feasible.
3. Avoid charging and doing some very processor-intensive activity on the phone at the same time. That can cause the battery to heat up significantly, and it's not a good idea to charge a battery that's too warm.
4. Avoid storing the phone in very hot or cold conditions (e.g., don't leave it sitting in your car on a hot Arizona summer day). That can not only be detrimental to the battery, but it can also be a fire risk.

In my opinion, rigidly following battery guidelines might prolong the overall battery life a little, but for most people, those gains won't be noticed within the usual ownership period of the phone, since the average person upgrades to a new phone every 1-2 years. If there's one thing to avoid, it's #1 -- frequent deep discharges.

Best way is to not worry or stress about it and just charge when needed and/or you have access to a charger

Exactly. I've never worried about it followed any so called rules.
I charge my devices whenever I want including overnight and I've never had any issues.

Plug it in or set it on a wireless charger when you need to. I typically don't let my battery get below 30-40%. That has nothing to do with battery health and everything to do with my own stress levels.

I pass my phones on to family and all of them still hold a charge just fine 2, 3 or even 4 years later.

Welcome to Android Central! There are a variety of different responses to that question. Some users will specifically tell you to not let your phone go down to a specific percentage (I've heard 40%) and charge only up to a specific percentage.

However, I've just tried to be less worried about the battery life of my phones. I just don't leave it charging overnight or in an unsupervised area of my home. I also leave it on a hard surface or table while it's charging. That's moreso about charging safety though, I suppose. I only charge my phone when I need to and don't typically top it off.

Do what feels right to you, but try not to overthink this. Charge your phone as needed, and have fun with it!

The reason I asked this was like I said me and my wife both had the S7. Well her battery seems a lot better than mine. I would have to charge it 2 or 3 times a day if I used it for FB, a few games and texting. Hers last all day. So I was just hoping to maximize my battery on my new phone.

The S7 going on 4 years old , typically life of the battery is 1-3 years . Maybe she has different usage but don't expect great battery life especially if battery is orginal.

The apps you installed on your phone can also make a significant difference, so perhaps you installed something that's using more battery in the background than your wife's phone.

So much misinformation about battery charging. Just charge it when it's low and feel free to leave it on the charger when it hits 100%. These phones and batteries are really smart about energy usage - you won't hurt the battery leaving it plugged in. No matter what you do, you'll start to see battery life reduction after a couple of years. iPhone, Galaxy, oneplus, doesn't matter. Battery technology is the same in all of these phones and they all degrade over time.

I just do it the easy and lazy way, as soon as I get home from where ever, it stays on the charger unless in use. I have done this with every phone I have ever owned and never had an issue. In addition battery usage per change never really change. if it did, I had not noticed. also considering I change phones every couple of years, it would not matter.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will do like most everyone says and just charge it when it needs it. I do hope my battery last
more than 1 year though. Thanks again everyone.

My Note 10 doesn't charge all night. There seems to be interruptions. My wife's Note 10 doesn't have those interruptions.Screenshot_20200109-201910_Device%20care.jpeg

Do you mean there are gaps in the charging? Is there an option to do a scheduled restart every night in the system settings?

No restart scheduled anywhere. And yes those gaps are every night and totally random. We both use a wireless charger. Hers charging on mine doesn't do that. I eliminated the wireless charger and use the cable, but it makes no difference. Battery life is pretty good, except the 100%-99% at idle is pretty quick in under 30 minutes. It shows 100% in the morning, but has those random gaps for some reason.

See if it happens if you boot into Safe Mode right before bedtime.

Unless someone using your phone while you sleep, I would download a 3rd party battery app and compare it
