It keeps telling me to customize. Any idea what this is and how to get rid of this damn thing.

You could also read the 'Terms & Conditions' & see if something identifies the app there.

That color scheme makes me think it might be the Galaxy Store, or some other Samsung bloat installer.

Not present on the stock, unbranded, Samsung firmware so I am inclined to go with carrier bloatware.

Yeah I've never seen any messages like that on my factory unlocked Flip. I do get plenty of emails from Sammy though lol. But I don't mind, I do like to be kept up on the deals

ATT. I figured it out by long press notification and disable the notification. This happens right after recently update.

I will stop buying carrier brands from now on.

That's a start, but be aware that carriers might still be able to install some of this junk automatically as soon as you insert their SIM and activate it.

Will that still happen if one uses unlocked firmware? I never got anything Verizon on my unlocked Samsung, but I've kept unlocked firmware continuously.

It can or block certain features but only Verizon I know can do this on unlock firmware

Thankfully, I've never experienced it myself with Pixels on T-Mobile, but I've read about it elsewhere. Not sure about the details though (like if the phones were originally carrier-agnostic, and which carriers were the culprits).
