What is this icon in my notification bar?

I'm new to Samsung and just got my phone a few days ago. After restarting my phone this icon showed up both in the notification bar up top, and in my dropdown as you can see below.

It just says "messages."

I looked through all of the documentation that came with my phone and I can't find a picture of it anywhere, can someone tell me what it means?

Ha ha, thanks for the help but I was actually referring to the icon under sportcenter. I think I've figured it out though. I'm coming from an iPhone to the galaxy and I tried to transfer all of my stuff over and I initially wanted to transfer all of my SMS messages over but realized it would be too much so I interrupted it. I just rebooted my phone and now I think it's trying to finish transferring over all of my old sms conversation.

it seems you figured it out, but yeah...that means the phone's synchronizing your messages hehe
