What is this "modem noise" on 2 week old Toshiba Chromebook 2?

Just purchased a Toshiba Chromebook 2 a few weeks ago. For the past week or so it has been making this "old modem" noise like it is trying to establish a modem connection. This is while it is connected to wifi. As far as I know this device does not have a modem. Why would this noise be happening or what is causing it? Thanks for any help!

Two weeks old means it's still under warranty - have it replaced.

Are you sure it's not the fan making that noise? How loud is it?
