What is this symbol called and how to disable it?

This symbol popped up a few days ago whenever I try playing a video I took or one my friend sent. The screen stays like that, black screen with that symbol, while the sound plays. It goes away after I restart my phone and I'm able to play videos like normal but it somehow finds its way back when I haven't even done anything.

I can't even Google how to stop it because I don't know what it's called so I've come here out of desperation..

Seems like some sort of casting app to try and cast to something?

I believe that is the symbol for the AllShare app. It is a Samsung app for sharing content between your connected devices. It was in older versions of Android OS. It's now called Samsung link.
Having said that, I've never used it so I can't say why it's showing up on your screen.

Thanks! I've found AllShare FileShare Service, Samsung Link Platform, and Samsung MirrorLink 1.1 in my app manager. It only lets me disable Samsung Link Platform and I've tried force stopping the others, but that darn symbol still shows up–basically nothing changed! Now my next question is how do I disable all of them?? Or do I have to resort to rooting my phone and deleting them?

Have you tried clearing device cache? Either through recovery mode or cached data from "storage" in settings?

On Kitkat, that symbol is Screen Mirroring. Don't know what it's called in LP or MM. You might want to go to settings and see if it's enabled.

That is screen Mirroring in Marshmallow too. To turn it off, go to the notification panel and click on it. I don't know how to disable it.

Yeah I saw it on my application manager. I can't disable it as the disable/enable button is gray. After disabling Samsung Link Platform yesterday and restarting my phone, the symbol hasn't come up since. And hopefully it doesn't anymore.

That thing is switched off in my notification panel. I've NEVER switched it on or opened any of the phone's mirroring apps which completely baffles me as to why it appeared on its own like this...

I clear my cache all the time, I have three phone cleaning apps.

Please do yourself a favor and get rid of all of them. Three?!

As for Mirroring, on Marshmallow, you can toggle on/off via the notification panel or through Settings >Connections>NFC and Sharing>Screen Mirroring

They all clear different stuff and I do think it's the reason why my phone doesn't lag or slow down. My friends who have Samsung phones complain about it all the time but I've never had to lol

Edit: Welp so in the end I still have to root my phone to download Marshmallow... I've never done this before (phones are expensive and I don't want to mess up and end up killing it..) So how do I go about this? Any trustworthy and simple tutorial for it? :/
