What is this wired thing that happened to my storage?

My htc one M7 will not show any of my files on the virtual sdcard or internal storage. but if I go into recovery, all of the files show up and work, i know that they work because I re flashed my rom that was on the sdcard. I cant fix this please help me!

What are you using to look at the files when they don't show up?

(BTW, flashing a ROM wipes out all your data, pictures, etc.)

I tried using the stock file explorer and ES File explorer that comes with ARHD Roms. I've flashed lots of roms and the storage is never been wiped. the thing is, the files are NOT gone they just wont show up in MTP or in any file manager. also the usage section in the settings app used to tell how much of it was music or whatever, but now it just says it is all "other". I've never seen anything like this before and it just happened randomly! i cant add or create files to it eather.

Ok i tried my backup and it fixed the MTP issue and i got all my files off. then i wiped the storage in TWRP then rebooted to see if it would work now. well now when I boot into android it says " Unfortunately System UI has stopped" and there is no status bar no wallpaper and no lock screen. then it will say "Unfortunately the process com.htc.widget.hmsproc2 has stopped" MTP is totally gone and my storage still doesn't work. i cant get my rom back on because MTP on twrp wont work and thats a driver issue on windows I cant fix. so bascily i cant fix it unless i get a USB-OTG cable and download another rom onto a flashdrive and then flash from there. i also had this 4.2.2 cm rom i tried flashing and the storage came back! YAY! but I had no gapps... so I went back to by backup and the storage was gone again. so it is the rom causing the problem and i need to flash another one. but i have no way of getting it on. i even tried ADB Push and it wont work. I just dont know what to do.
