I noticed that something was downloading in my notification bar and I can't figure out what it is. When I hold my finger on it and I click on app info it takes me to the download app on the phone. I just force stop it but it comes back a little later. I don't have Facebook set to auto update so I'm confused. Picture attached.

Running Chemistry ROM 4.1.1 if that matters.

Your guess is as good as mine. I saw the same on my phone the other day. I am running Wicked Senstion 2.1

It's Faceplant being their obnoxious, arrogant selves, deciding that they have the right to decide what apps you have on your phone, instead of the quaint idea that you should control your own device.:

Facebook updating their Android app outside of Google Play for some users | Android Central

That is cray. I'm glad I didn't have wifi on when it started downloading and I could delete it. I don't even know why I have a Facebook account anymore.

Thanks for the replies guys. That's what I needed to know. Now I can comfortably say goodbye to the Facebook app. I'll just get on it through the browser. If I didn't keep up with family living out of state I wouldn't even have an account.

I hate Facebook myself. Don't have the app, and always disable/freeze/delete the app if pre-installed on any device. To answer your question: somebody at Facebook screwed up the update. If you uninstall the app, wait like 10 or 15 minutes and reinstall, it will bypass the constant updating/download icon. I have seen several posts in this and other forums and this is the universal solution.
