What is wrong with Youtube's search and recommendation suggestions?

I made a new Google account 2 months ago.

I made sure to apply the same YT settings and to subscribe to the same channels as before, but this time, something's gone really weird.

For example, when I search something, I get only around 10 results, followed by "People also watched" and "For you" results, which usually show different and irrelevant videos, than what I've searched for.

In addition, on YT's home page, I've started to get recommendations from 3 years, 4, sometimes even 8 years ago. I really want new and trending stuff to show up and not videos from 8 years ago.

Is it just me, or something has gone wrong with YT lately?

Go into those videos and read the comments. You'll find YouTube likes doing this. A video will be virtually unknown, then years later it's recommended and watched by everyone.

It's no secret Google and YouTube manipulate their results to what they want you to see, rather than what you want to see.

Also likely that the fact it's a new account so at the start of the 'machine learning' process, so you're seeing more generic things for people with your initial setup rather than seeing recommendations based on users with similar behavior based on much more detailed info - many more YT interactions, web browsing behavior, ad interaction, etc., etc.

I don't know about you but I don't think recommendations for smartphone reviews that are three years old or Chrome OS tips that are three years old make any sense. When I search, I'd like to have the results sorted by date.

Actually, I wish I could find a decent alternative.

Welcome to Google's modern version of YouTube....as you can see it sucks. On many, many levels :-\
