What keyboard are you using?

I've tried several different keyboards but I always go back to Swiftkey. GBoard is close to what I want but not quite. Swiftkey is almost perfect for me.

Was a swiftkey user for many years. Now I use Gboard since it's smoother, gets the prediction right the most and it's fast to come up on all gestures that I've set up on Nova which needs a keyboard.

Swiftkey had somehow become clunky. I had purchased Swiftkey when it was a paid app. But not leaving Gboard anytime soon. It's improved generously offered the last few months

Have been using gboard, only one annoyance, when I try and use cursor swype it keeps popping up with the switch keyboard option which is really annoying. The Samsung one is actually pretty good as a keyboard but does lack some features, I am thinking of giving swiftkey another go.

Well... that KB has come an awfully long way in a short time. It wasn't that long ago that it was as bare a keyboard as you could find. It supported gesture typing, usual predictions and autocorrect and that was pretty much it. Now it's packed to the gills with stuff; theming and sizing functions, Google search integration, gif keyboard, real-time translation and multi-language support, etc.
How do you use the gif? I click on the gif pic and get a message that the text field doesn't support gif insertion from the keyboard.

I use Gboard with all my Android devices. To me it's the best keyboard out there. I tried thr S8s keyboard out for a day or two but found myself downloading gbaord pretty quickly. I only use one set up with Gboard and it's the orangish redish keyboard with boarders at a blow mid level high with sound keys cranked up and vibration intensity cranked up. Plus I've used it for so long with my Google account that when I sync it pulls over all my learned text habits and I'm set. That said since I saw this topic I may switch to the Samsung keyboard today to give it another try. Why not.

I too bought SwiftKey back when it was a paid app. I want to like GBoard but there are a couple things that I just can't get over.

1. There is no thumb layout. I prefer thumb layout when I'm in landscape and I have the arrows in the middle. I also like the arrows.

2. It does not insert a space after common punctuation marks. It has the double space to enter period which is great but it's not smart enough to put a space after other common punctuation like exclamation, question marks and commas. I'm so used to typing with SwiftKey that this is just so tedious for me.

3. I find that it's less accurate than SwiftKey. I imagine that it would get better as I learned to type with this keyboard and it learned how I typed (if it does that). The thing I like about SwiftKey is that it learns how you type and since I've been using it for so long, it really works well for me.

I could probably deal with number 2 but no thumb layout is a deal breaker for me. The S8+ is so long that it is awkward to type in landscape mode unless there is a thumb mode.

I do love how you can have custom backgrounds for the keyboard with GBoard. My reasons above just really keep me from wanting to use it. I've tried several times and I can never make it more than a day on GBoard without wanting to just go back to SwiftKey.

Gboard for me is the best. I do't really the draw feature, but I like the way it predicts what I'm going to write based on the words used previously. Since I have to write repetitive messages every time to my clients and comes very handy

I still switch back and forth between Gboard and Swiftkey.

I find the Gboard is better at predicting words when I swipe, but sometimes it will not let my swipe in some fields. GIF support is cool, but wont work in some fields that it should like my texting app. Gboard thinks gifs and images are not allowed, however they are as the app will convert to MMS.

Swiftkey is better at remembering unusual things like "@bsmith" and email addresses. Plus it know all my special words since I have used it for years (since the paid app days).

I've been waiting literally years for SwiftKey to get their act together with swiping and they finally did this year (much more accurate and offers corrections at the top for swiping words (didn't have that before) and now using as my go to keyboard as that is my preferred method of typing on a smartphone. Was using Gboard before that but it wasn't as accurate as I liked.

For predictive text I can't see how any keyboard competes with SwiftKey. Maybe I'm too set in my ways.

That all depends on the app. I usually only use the gif function inside Hangouts. It seems to be more directed towards messaging apps. For things like forum apps, they all have their own attachment functions so it probably won't work on many/most.

Yea I still can't make a decision between gboard and swift. Where is the Facepalm emoji... 🤔

Just install both; I did. You can easily swap between the two to see what tickles your fancy; no need to obsess over it. I personally like the GBOARD so much I didn't even bother enabling Swift.
