What method (Samsung, Google, etc) do you all use when porting info to new device?

As the question asks, I have used Samsung's app in the past to bring over data from my old phone to my new.
This worked fine, though there were odd glitches with apps not updating and multiple same contacts 😳. All that got worked out eventually.
This upgrade I'm wondering with ordering Samsung unlocked ZF3 version since they don't supply SIM, how will I be able to bring info to new phone if I've taken the SIM from my old phone as devices do not "start" without SIM installed?
Any methods or suggestions? Thanks.
Peace

When i go through setup process log into my Google account then Samsung account if prompted to restore I'll choose that and once completed i check if anything needs to be added if so i go to smart switch on the pc and select which category to restore . It will work without a sim just use wifi .

I use Samsung's Smart Switch PC version regularly to back my phone up to my computer via USB cable. I have never tried the wifi method.

When I purchase a new phone, I just swap out the sim card & choose what info I want to restore to the new phone.

I store all my contacts locally on my phone & not with Google contacts. I have never had duplicate contacts. (Knock on Wood)
:)

I am a slow typer, by the time I was done, 'The Stang' had already responded.
:)

From Fold 1 to Fold 2 used Samsung's smart switch app using Wi-Fi. Setting up google and email separately.

Thanks sir!
Only have used Smart Switch via apps on phones in the past connected through cable.
SO, am i correct in thinking: if i swap out SIM from ZF2 to ZF3 i'll be able to do smart switch between the Phones, even though the ZF2 won't have SIM installed via WiFi?

Yeah thsts fine , also make backups with smart switch on pc as Samsung cloud going away this is the next best thing

I backup everything to my computer by dragging and dropping. Then I just set up my phone as new. I use Super Backup for call logs and sms. Then I drag and drop all my old prefs to my new phone.

So your "samsung cloud going away" caught my eye... aware One Drive is taking over most of Samsung's cloud, though thought they were keeping their phone system data and certain samsung app backups on their servers. That going away too? Thanks ✌

Thanks All for your thorough and specific answers... enjoy your ZF3's!
Supposedly mine arrives tomorrow....
May it unfold new horizons for you. 👽🏜😻

They will keep certain things like Notes app, contacts, alarms etc but photos and file manger are not , thats why i mentioned smart switch on pc because it's basically Samsung cloud just not on the phone and can restore anytime

Thanks again for reminding me to consider PC; yeah... old Mac dude here, am wondering if they have SS for us users... 🦄
BTW, had both a '67 & '68 stock 289ci AT in perfect shape in the early '70s. (Yeah, pretty sure I just dated myself). Loved those machines....
Peace

What a great question! I've used both Samsung Smart Switch, which was a pleasure to use; and then Google's own system from my S19 to my Pixel 5. Both worked very well!
