What new phone should I get?

looking for a new phone

I currently have an LG Optimus 4x HD that I got about 2.5 years ago. It is hopelessly laggy and needs to be rebooted daily. It has a 4.7” screen with a bit of a bezel.

I live in Canada. I am looking for a phone that doesn't feel any bigger in my pocket, so probably 5” max. I want good battery life and call quality. My LG never received even one update, so I am looking for a phone that will get many updates. I am a software developer, so I am technically sophisticated, but I don't have time to tinker with my phone a ton either.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on my phone if possible.

What are some good options?

Have you considered a Google Nexus 5? The price is very good for the hardware you get, the size is manageable and you will definitely get updates.
