What next?

I've had my Honor 8 since November 2016. Overall, I've had a great experience and I'd say without a doubt was a great buy for $275. I love the little nuances like being able to use the fingerprint sensor as a button and using it to scroll and so on.
Unfortunatley, my time with this phone is at an end. I've had battery problems now for at least 6 months if not longer. Now my phone turns off 2-3 times a day without warning and will freeze then reboot while taking pictures. It turned off today at 90% and then said it was at 0%. Clearly I have a battery issue but oh well.

So, what next? What have you guys moved on to or are you still using your Honor 8 as your daily driver or in my case limping along with it.
I've been looking at the Note 9 and the OnePlus6T. I've played around with both and really wasn't impressed with the 6T. I love the Note 9 but hesitate because of updates. I'm sure that is funny coming from an Honor/Huawei user. I've read great things about the upcoming View 20 but not sure it will make it to the USA with a possible executive order signed to keep Honor/Huawei out of the country. Of course, I've just passed up all the great sales but now I'm not sure that I can make it too much longer with this phone.

appreciate any advice you all have if you've made it through my lenghty post. Cheers

I don't have a phone suggestion for you, but I would remind you that in order to keep your battery as healthy as possible, avoid frequent deep discharges (i.e., letting the battery go to zero or near-zero). That can significantly decrease a battery's lifespan.

My phone will say it's at 40%, 60% or sometimes 80% and just turn off. I did heed this type of advice but now have a bad battery and am in need of a new phone. Thanks though.

Wow, your battery problem has gotten pretty bad! The best phone out right now imo is the OnePlus 6T. It might seem boring but it’s a phone that does everything right. It’s the best all round package you can find today. The view 20 seems like a beast of a phone but Honor’s current strategy of releasing 50 phones a year harms their ability to provide updates on a timely basis. Further, in a month or 2 another model will come out that’ll be better than this device and you’ll have an older gen phone in a matter of months!
If the Galaxy S series is within your budget then you can also hold off buying a new phone and wait for the S10. It is rumoured to have the same screen design as the View 20 but will have a higher quality battery and better software support (At least security updates).

I had similar battery issues with my Honor 8 and just decided to use my mom’s old 6s. It’s nice to not have battery anxiety and the fear that my phone will just turn off and die.

Thanks Ayush. I wish I had another phone I could use for a few months. Battery is obviously really important to me as is with anyone else I'm sure. I'll give the 6T another look. I've heard the in screen sensor gets faster over time as well.

if you like the 8 that much have you thought about staying with Huawei/Honor? I recently picked up a Honor View 10 and it's been really great. what you get for the price is great over the competition. the one plus looks nice as well, have not seen one in person.

I don't blame you for hanging on to your Honor 8 as long as you did - I loved my white Honor 8 so much! It was the best $400 I've ever spent on a device! Then my fiancé (now husband) used it for a few months when his iPhone SE was giving him issues; and he got addicted to it too! It's too bad that you have such awful battery issues with your Honor 8! That certainly makes it difficult to use and affects your user experience.

With regards to what I myself upgraded to after my Honor 8, I went for the Google Pixel 2. I love it so much too! EMUI is close to stock and the Pixel 2 is stock so I guess I really do love stock Android!

If you are concerned about frequent security updates, I'd recommend a phone like the Pixel 2 or 3 (the 3 line is awesome but the 2 line is less expensive now and works just as well, in my opinion). OnePlus is good about updates as well but you said you were not as impressed with it, yes?

The Huawei P20 series is really cool - my coworker has a Huawei P20 and it's awesome! Huawei seems to be coming up a bit in the news with regards to security and the US, so I'm unsure about what will happen with that and of course that may affect purchasing decisions of potential buyers.

Keep us posted on what you decide to buy! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
