What Should I Do With My S5?

I see that Vz has a $200 trade-in on the S5 but I'm not clear whether this is a straight credit or whether it's a "Vz card" which only allows you to buy Vz crap. If it's the latter, I think I'll pass. I could go sell it on Craigs list but I really don't want the hastle. I know there are internet services that will buy your phone from you but I don't know which of these offers you the best deal.

Any advice on what to do with a soon-to-be outdated S5 would be appreciated.

To my knowledge, or at least the last time I checked, it was a Verizon gift card and not straight out cash. In the past, I have sold my stuff on Ebay but, I have found that the final bidding price minus ebay and paypal fees comes out to around the same as some of these others. The one that I have used is Gazelle.com. There is another called usell.com. They give you a list of 3 or so merchants that want to buy the phone.

Gazelle seems to be the best and its pretty much a no hassle process.

Another one, is amazon.com but, they will issue you a credit to your amazon.com account which means you have to buy from amazon to use it.

"Your Verizon Wireless gift card will be sent to you within two (2) weeks after receipt of your wireless device. Verizon Wireless gift cards will be issued in the name of the person provided in the Trade-In Submission and will be emailed to the email address provided in the Trade-In Submission. Verizon Wireless gift cards may only be used at Verizon Wireless owned and operated retail locations or for on-line purchases at verizonwireless.com. Gift cards can also be used to pay a Verizon Wireless bill (OneBill® and Prepaid Accounts are excluded) by visiting My Verizon at verizonwireless.com/myverizon. Gift cards cannot be used at Verizon Wireless authorized agent/retailer locations."

Kind of bummed about that. I guess I assumed it was just a Visa gift card like I received from a promotion by Verizon Fios. Oh well, I'll use it towards my bill payment or maybe just use it to buy some of their ludicrously overpriced accessories in the store.

If I were you, I'd go 3rd party. You could go the ebay route, not sure how much you'd make there. But you could use a site like Gazelle.com and they are offering $180 and that would be stress free and easy unlike ebay. You could then buy some super old crappy smartphone on craigslist (as long as its in decent condition) and trade that one into Verizon and get $100.

Verizon will give you a Verizon gift card. I use it to pay my Verizon bill. To maximize profits but with minimal effort, sell the s5 on gazelle or whatever, then buy an old phone like the Droid which should be $20ish,and trade that into Verizon.

Don't do that they give you a fraction of what the phone is worth. Sell it on eBay or swappa you make a lot more
