What to get - Maxx or Galaxy S4?

Touchwiz is awful. But with CM or the Google Edition ROM, it is excellent.

It's a Zero Lemon battery and comes with a tpu case. It's actually a pretty nice concept, but reviews say it negatively affects signal strength, which isn't strong to begin with.

Play with both at the store. I like touchwhiz and will continue to use Samsung due to the features. See which phone you prefer.

Everyone talks about lag, but I just don't notice it. I have rooted and flashed all kinds of ROMs but there was always something wrong with a feature or the phones would just reset. I guess to each their own.

I have no lag, however I'm on the GoldenEye ROM running off the latest international base. I really want to like the new droids (judging from how I'm here reading) but I just don't get why the phone ships with a 720p 5" display. It's as if they are on the same path of having a good phone with a sub par screen and sub par camera. Both versions of the last had the same problem. The S4 only loses to the droid maxx in on board battery size. (However I love my swappable battery)

Why 720p Motorola. Why!

My issue with the Google Edition phones is cost. $600 for a stockish device isn't worth it to me when you can grab 2 N4's for the same money. The Nexus 4 is still an awesome device.

Part of the price you pay for a device that has TouchWiz, or Sense or Motoblur is that you're paying for that company's "enhancements" to Android. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the options are out there. But paying that much for a device that is just "mostly" stock essentially just get an unlocked bootloader is too steep for my checking account. I'm glad they're there, but personally, I'll pass.

I have no idea where you are coming from. Have you been following Motorola lately. Blur is long gone, don't tell me you are complaining about a phone that is as close to stock as it gets.

True 720p is lower ppi than S4 but truly you would have to look at the phone in the store. I am gonna go check it out, Motorola finally dumped the pentile display so I might be ok with 720p, as long as it is not pentile I might be ok. Jury is still out on the display, I think 1080p is not absolutely necessary for me as it is hard for me tell the difference between clarity on a phone like Optimus G and galaxy s4 is indistinguishable for me since they are both so sharp. So I am willing to give it a pass. For me I would have to look at it before I purchase it.

Hmph, i guess there was some early confusion on the pentile, I thought it was pentile. I'd still like to wait out to see how well the camera performs.

Its not "PenTile" but it's still an AMOLED screen with non uniform subpixels.

My guess: it uses the Diamond Matrix like the S4, but at 720 resolution...so somewhere on between the display quality of a Galaxy S3 & S4.

Yes, stock sucks. It's too bland. I will not follow the mindless echoes that fill these threads about how stock is the best.

Samsung. Touchwhiz is great. Moto needs to break out of their shell. No % on battery, enclosed storage and battery.

Now add samsung with 32gb internal + a 64gb SD. Wow

touchwiz is awful. you can get the battery percent using power toggle app.

Both. Its easier to navigate, not as bland, and has great features. The only thing I don't like is the keyboard. I use jellybean keyboard from the app store though.

You are a brilliant person, do you know that you are the only one that addressed the real issues anywhere online. What do we do with our SD cards? and we can extend the battery passed the droid maxx life to over 48 hours. Bravo.

It's all about preferences and what do you want and need from your phone.
I was thinking about the HTC One and the Galaxy S4. At the end I went with the GS4 and have no regrets whatsoever!

I currently have the S4 now, and am going to be switching to the Maxx on Tuesday. I just prefer the Nexus type software as opposed to the touchwiz software. Most of the features that come with the S4, don't work, or I don't use because they pretty much are pointless. But the radios are deffinately not the best, I constantly lose signal on this phone, the battery life is surprisingly good though.
I'm looking forward getting the maxx with the better battery life and the better build quality of the phone so it doesn't constantly feel like I'm going to break my phone in half, and the active display I'm looking forward to.

I personally won't buy a Motorola in a long, long time!
They burned me and many others with the Photon and other phones.

This is my first Samsung phone and I really love it. I use all the Samsung features on my Galaxy S4 and don't really mind Touchwiz.
But not everyone has the same taste or needs.

There will be an obvious difference in display clarity. 720p on a 5 inch screen is pixelated. That is one thing I hate about my Note 2. It is impossible to go back to 720p after using a 1080p display on the S4, DNA or HTC One. Most of the Droid Ultra reviewers are saying that yhe display is pixelated. The display on the older Razr Maxx HD will be better simply because it is a 4.7 inch display. If the Maxx HD had wireless charging I would buy that instead. The other con is the camera on these new Droids and the Moto X are getting terrible reviews. Motorola cant seem to get a decent camera in any of their phones. There wont be many accessories either.

Thankfully I'm going from a Note II to a Droid Maxx so I won't notice too much of a difference. As for accessories as long as I have a case and screen protector I'll be fine. It is a bummer that the camera is so bad but I'll live.
