What will be the next Thunderbolt?!

I'm thinking "Lightningbolt"!

I mean, after all! :D

I'll take any HTC phone with more RAM, dual core, and of course the kickstand. 4.3" screen is just about perfect for those of us who pocket our phones...maybe 4.5" would be tolerable. however, all of that is out of the window without a serious boost in battery capacity, out of the box. Love my Tbolt revised with Go Launcher EX....

Thinking back to the weeks and months leading up to the Thunderbolt launch I wonder what will be the next Thunderbolt. I remember taking each and every Thursday off of work thinking it's coming but then it didn't. But, then, it finally did and I was so excited!! Even though our phone is dated now and was fairly dated when it launched, I am left pondering what will be the next Thunderbolt.

Most of us launch day people will be up for upgrade coming here this fall/winter so , is there any phone that we should start getting excited about now? I want to keep this specific to the TBOLT forum as well because I value all of your opinions specifically. There has to be something on the horizon that will just kick some serious butt!! Specifically HTC because I have come to absolutely love everything about an HTC phone.

Wow! That is all really can say. This post brought smile to my face because really excited for Thunderbolt came out. However I have to smirk a little at the idea of a Thunderbolt 2. The reason is from time got my Thunderbolt practical on launch day till now the phone does not have status quo for a sequel.

These are all issues that cause Thunderbolt to be not widely successful device to have a second version.

-The delayed launch debacle(delayed or not?)
-Poor battery life out the gate
-No gingerbread (one of the last to get it)
-Lack of 4G coverage
-3G to 4G bug issues
-Speaker quality issue
-Phone restarting bug issue
-Poor sales numbers( HTC drop in revenue last year)

The Thunderbolt was the first 4G LTE phone but it did not set a precedent like the EVO 4G, G1, Droid, etc. What it did do is start up roar like no other in forum which I won't go into. The internet press could not ignore issues around Thunderbolt which hid the fact that it's still a solid device.( After several long a waited updates as well a stabile 4G Network.)

The Thunderbolt is hardly a memorible name to masses and the minority(US) are not enough to fuel enomically for HTC or Verizon to make a Thunderbolt 2. HTC and Verizon I can certainly guarantee their won't be a Thunderbolt 2 at least by name anyways.

My thoughts...
-Launch wasn't delayed
-Battery life not far from any other 4g phone
-The Thunderbolt was the FIRST VZW 4g phone to be upgraded to Gingerbread -- the first.
-3g/4g coverage same as any other 4g phone
-Same 3g to 4g issues as any other 4g phone
-My speaker is okay
-My phone didn't restart then, or now
-Don't believe the TBolt can be blamed for general HTC sales numbers

I Agree with Frank. He is dead on.

Engadget called tbolt the worst gadget of the year. In a recent interview a representative of HTC basically admitted tbolt missed the mark - too big and clutzy with extended battery (which is essential due to poor battery life). Rezound battery? Face it - wasnt designed for.our phones and doesnt play well with charging status algorithm.

Kick stand? Fantastic idea but they put it on backwards so you cant watch a movie while charging.

There will not be another HTC phone called a Thunderbolt.

This doesn't mean our phones aren't usable now but Thunderbolt is a name HTC would rather forget.

You may be correct, but man, I love this phone! Admittedly, it had its issues, but that's what you live with on the bleeding edge of technology. I still don't see any phones on Verizon worth upgrading to. Really, I just want a RAM upgrade to this bad boy and I'd be happy for two more years.

being a late-comer to the Tbolt family, I was fortunate to avoid almost all of the issues most people hated about this phone, outside of subpar battery life, and juice defender helps with that. as far as what Endgadget had to say about it, who made them the end all-be all when it comes to phone gospel? I believe the fact that the Tbolt was the first 4G phone for verizon gave it so much more exposure, so every problem was magnified to the nth degree. I'm sure other phones on other networks have had battery life issues, rebooting problems, etc. I love my phone, and I will research my next phone just as much as did this one.

So you're claiming epic fail becuase ONE tech website (out of them all) didn't like the phone and the kickstand is hinged on the wrong side??? The battery issue is moot because all 4G smartphones suffer from that.

I am claiming it ie enough so there will not be a tbolt2.

Razr Maxx. No battery issues there. Battery life rivals non-smartphones.

Maxx isn't really the exception. The Razr had the same battery issue as the Tbolt. But because the Razr has a non-removable battery, Motorola couldn't offer an extended battery like HTC did for the Tbolt. Motorola had to re-release the Razr with a 3300mAh battery (still non-removable) in the Maxx...which really ticked off everyone who bought the Razr. The Razr and Maxx are just about identical. The Tbolt uses a removable battery (obviously) and HTC offered a 2750 mAh extended battery. If HTC used a non-removable battery for the Tbolt, *that* would have resulted in the Tbolt 2. :p

-Launch was delayed to those in the forums but that is hear say which I will admit. Those Best Buy had a blunder in best buy ads about date and price. I just summed it to a delayed debacle which the delay is neither true or false but left a bad impression on the thunderbolt.

-Battery life not far from any other 4G device at the time there was not many and the Thunderbolt was the worst at the time. Furthermore Verizon state the issue with Battery life and sent update to fix that.

-Same 3G to 4g issues a any other phone but this was only phone at time of launch with this issue. Furthermore 4G LTE was really hyped up.

-Your speaker was okay but others was not. I remember Cory from the AC Forums Staff exchanging his thunderbolt because the speaker was not right.

-Your phone didn't restart but others. Their were some many others Verizon sent out another update to fix that issue.

-HTC Thunderbolt can not solely be blame for HTC's general sales but still fact remains the HTC Thunderbolt did not sale well.

Either way, I don't like the Engadget review much either and I don't think it should be the phone gospel. From a money making standpoint though, I don't think HTC will make another TBOLT but I wish they would. Seriously, the kickstand is a huge draw for me as I use it all the time and do other things while using my phone. It works perfectly for Skype and a million other things too.

Look at Motorola for example. They were nearly belly up just a few years ago and now they have a huge marketshare. That just goes to show how fast things can change in the techno game. HTC will be fine and they will release another beast of a phone here soon I predict in the fall/winter months.

My Requirements for Next Phone:
-At least dual core
-At least 32gb storage
-1gb RAM or more
-3300mah battery or larger
-Bigger screen with Higher Res (steal retina display patents, just kidding)
-Better Cameras both front and back 10mp and 5mp FF
-1080p Video
-Better sounding speaker so that when phone volume is all the way up, it doesn't crackle at all.
-Hopefully built by HTC

IMO, the Rezound IS the Tbolt 2. it's basically the same phone, on the surface, with much more juice under the hood. the Tbolt has more than likely "jumped the shark" with HTC, so when it's gone (from the marketplace) it's gone for good. however, I thought the Razr was gone for good, and motorola ressurected that phone (name) this past year. so anythings possible. the Tbolt is THE pioneer on Big Red LTE, and I'm proud to own one.

I disagree that the Rezound is the Thunderbolt 2. The Rezound actually shares much more in common with the Incredible line than it does with the Thunderbolt, subsequently it could've been called the Incredible HD (due to its 720p screen). :)

To me it would really be a shame if they don't make a true Thunderbolt successor whatever they call it (although I'd prefer a similar naming convention). May be HTC will take a One X and create a Thunderbolt 2 type device that has a kickstand and removable battery (kind of like what they did for Sprint with the new EVO 4G LTE)! :p

I agree. HTC wants no part of a name that evokes memories of worst gadget of the year. I will look for a case with a kickstand in my next phone. The keys for.me will be processor speed and battery capacity. I don't mind the internal battery that cannot be removed but I would like an sd card....but internal only memory would.not be a deal breaker for me.

I would like a louder speaker and an hd screen.

Lag free ui is a must. I love sense features but cannot tolerate sense lag.

I am also proud to own one merely because it was just such a huge event to me. It was y2k almost in that the fact that a carrier was rolling out what was and has become the nations fastest 4g LTE network by far. Huge jumps in technology are big to me and I have to be part of those jumps.

For example, I am one of those crazy people that waits in line for days leading up to the newest video game console release simply because I just have to have one of the first ones. I was first in line for the TBOLT at my local store by 4 hours and walked out with the first activated 4G LTE phone in my area (as a customer of course). I'm sure someone else "in the inside" had some 4g juice the night before the release.
