What will be the Pixel 5 trade in value?

Not sure but probably be just ok. I was considering keeping it since the pixel 6 and 6 pro might not have the Google Photos/Videos unlimited storage.

There are rumors that Google will give better deals than previously…we shall see Google doesn’t have a good trade in history for value …

I guess it all depends on the condition of your current Pixel 5 but also what Google chooses to pay for it... A tricky slope, for sure! I too would wait and see what happens!

Can't be better than what you'd get selling it on the used market such as Swappa

I'm guessing it will be better than they have in the past, at least for preorders. Depending on the demand, that may only last a few days if there are significant orders. It won't matter to me as the P6 will be too expensive for me and my P5 still works great. Battery longevity is my most important factor and Google finally got it right.

My guess is between $250-$350 initially. Though as said, you'll always get more if you sell it outright.

Yeah i sell all my pixel phones on Swappa like 1-2 months before the new one launches and always get a decent buck, but this time around i choose to keep the pixel 5 as a spare in case the pixel 6 loses unlimited Google photos storage or something happens to the p6.

With all the fees and additional things Swappa isn't any better. I personally sell locally via offer up or other local marketplace like Swappa local and I get the best value from there. After that I probably trade in if there trade in values are good. Swappa shipping is my last preference.

You think Swappa's fees aren't reasonable?

Try eBay lol...with their new policy, the fee is 12.55% of the total sale price. Then deduct shipping costs and what's actually left in your pocket isn't quite the original "selling price".

Lol that's why didn't even mention eBay, been in the selling stuff for over a decade so not new for me

Being in one of the bigger cities I never have issues finding buyers locally. It used to take longer to sell phones like LG, Sony or OEMs that aren't that popular. But Apple, Samsung and even Google to some extent I have always had no issues selling locally within a day or two of listing.

Personally the math doesn't workout if you are selling on a website with fees, shipping, insurance, shady buyer and what not

Yeah...having to insure the device just in case it disappears is no bargain especially on more expensive devices.

You have to expect some fees when selling online. Swappa is the best option that I know of. When you price your item, they are at least upfront on the fee as opposed to eBay, and you can factor the shipping cost into your price. The best thing to me, is that when someone buys the item the payment is processed immediately. I also believe they have a better class of buyer (and seller) because of their rules and procedures. Makes it less stressful to sell in person if that's an option for you.

FB and Craigslist are not options for me.

I'd rather get a little less and be covered on my sales...Don't trust my local lmao

Not sure how you are better covered selling online than local? Local meetup is a cash transaction and it's done, immediate and no charge back etc. With eBay, Swappa or any online sites, they always side more with buyer than seller if things go wrong and risk of charge backs etc. Granted I haven't had any of those experiences myself and generally has went smoothly for all my Swappa transactions but it's still an hassle and worry about if the buyer creates any problem. For local, I meet at a public place in a safe crowded place of my choice in my area and transaction is completed in quick time and don't have to think again about it.

At the end it's probably just a preference thing and some people looks to be more comfortable online and some local.

PS: I understand the risk of meeting someone locally with a costly gadget, but again I try to screen my buyers before hand and meet only for cash transaction near my location and crowded place during day time. Don't get tempted by I'll PayPal/Venmo $300 more (insert story here) and ship to my (insert location here)

More over nowadays companies are offering great trade in which might be better option to go anyway. Been doing that for my Samsung pre orders for sometime and even did for my iPhone 13 series pre order this time around since even Apple trade in were great. Hopefully let's keep our fingers crossed and Google provides great trade in value as well this time around (big doubt)

Its definitely preference.. I don't have time to screen local and I don't want cash transactions.. I know Swappa has buyers protection but experience for me has been excellent.. I'd rather sell.. Pack and ship... I don't use Swappa local...

Keeping the Pixel 5 as a spare or back-up phone is a really awesome idea!

Yeah i think it makes a great spare phone never know when I'll need a backup.
