What Works When Disconnected from Phone but Connected to Wi-Fi?

Wondering if there is a catalog of functions and apps that work in non-3g watches when untethered from phone but with a wi-fi connection?

(When the watch was announced, I had hoped it'd be possible get access to basic cloud-based data wtihout phone nearby.)

I would say that your apps will work as normal (notifications and updates). This a good question asking for a list I would like to see one.

Syncs between devices that work over Bluetooth do not work over Wi-Fi or data network on my S1. I use My Notes In Gear frequently is just one example of one I'd like to be able to sync, Samsung Voice Memo being another. I get all my regular notifications and can use Wi-Fi to access cloud stuff as if using data but syncs between devices don't happen.

Between the two we might be able to come up with a comprehensive list. (Kind of crazy that Samsung doesn't provide this kind of info., but oh well . . . )

Some things I've been able to get to work with my phone turned off and my non-3g watch connected to wifi:
Email (Samsung's watch app)
CNN
Gaurdian News

Some things that don't work:
Maps (error: "No location info. Connect to phone with bluetooth")
Weather (error "No location . . . ")
Samsung Milk Music (asks me to connect to phone)
Here Maps
Yelp ("Unable to determine your location")
