What would be the next Uncarrier move be, if you were John Legere?

I can't see that happening. They aren't going to insure a device that is rooted since someone could get it.. Root it.. Then overclock and fry it. Completely the users fault.

Frying your phone from overclocking is very unlikely, since your phone still enforces thermal limits that will cause it to shut down. Brciking, on the other hand, is all too common. Sadly, that's basically the one time they can't check for root prior to accepting it under warranty. I've known people on other forums to mess something up using root, then intentionally hard-brick their phone so that the service center can't turn it on to find out it was rooted.

The people who get screwed are the ones who root safely. Something like a dead pixel is obviously not caused by root, but is instead a manufacturing flaw. But HTC and Samsung put a flag to show that your device was rooted, so even if I am able to restore my phone fully to stock they'll still be able to tell. That's a major reason I'm sticking to Nexus devices, since Google actually recognizes that it's obviously not a problem caused by root if you are able to restore your phone to the factory image.

Usually they try and do things for all their customers so this wouldn't benefit anyone except Android users.
And not many of those. I know the tweaks don't grok it, but the vast majority of phone and tablet users could not care less than to be able to root their devices.

T-Mobile is great, I really love then and what they are doing in the mobile industry but they have to step up the coverage before they can 100% compete with the bigger guys and really do some significant damage to them. The lack of coverage in the rural areas is killing me and really forcing me to switch back to the bigger carriers. Other than this I am a huge fan of T-Mobile!

TBQH even though I've spent most of my time with Android flashing various ROMs, as of Android 5.0 I may not even root. Root was great back when "basic" functionality required it, but most of what I changed with root is now part of the system.

I think there should be a better deal for the family plan with just two phones.

2 phones with 1gb is $80
4 phones with 2.5gb is $100

I'm thinking about having some children just so I can get a better deal.

It is just a promo deal that is why --- Happens on all carriers. Look at AT&T and Verizon // Anyone on 15 GB or more gets double data .. everyone else? They get nothing.

They should do video freedom. Allow Data rollover on hotspot. Be the first US carrier to use US BASED CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES. Sue customers for making up lies that cause the carrier to loose customers

Video freedom would be basically giving everyone unlimited data and that would null their unlimited plan so.. That won't happen.

They do have US based customer service so not sure what you mean ?

Sue customers ? Not only is that a bad idea that would cost them tons to do so .. That doesn't sound like a good idea.

How about transparency and network build out? I'm getting a little ticked at TMo. 1)Their 200mb data for life sounds good, but you really have to work the reps to get it. Either they weren't trained on it, or TMo deliberately makes it difficult to get. I had to go through multiple levels of CS and it's still not right. Their wording on it is also vague so that CS can use it however they see fit. 2) Forced migration is not the (mostly) apples to apples conversion that was promised. Many complaints on various forums. My point on this is that Legere makes nice bold promises.....then there is the fine print and all the conditions and the quiet discontinuations. As far as network build, TMo has gained many customers, but they will lose some of them when the network limitations start showing. Get rid of edge and at least go 3G. H or H+ doesn't matter. I know TMo is working on this but it has to be done sooner rather than later. Maybe they should start publicizing their deployment schedules. It appears they have been making their goals throughout 2014, so why not share the build out plan with the public?

Honestly any network .. any .. has fine print at the bottom. Verizon advertises all day long for $110 a month for 10 GB of data on 2 lines but at the bottom says "with edge" so it basically equals out to contract pricing (yes T-Mobile does this as well with their plan advertisements). Sprint states you can get your bill "cut in half" but fails to mention that you MUST buy a phone from them and finance it (so you really aren't getting "half") -- even if you didn't want to and have your own capable device.. or simply wanted to buy out right.

The conversion thing is an issue but I remember reading an article where they're going to fix it and match people's data -- it was being done incorrectly (Update on legacy plan to Simple Choice switch confusion: You shouldn't be losing data » TmoNews).

T-Mobile has been working on the network a TON ... they can only do so much so fast. Getting rid of edge would be a bad idea since that would just limit coverage even more -- keeping it there isn't hurting anyone and they're working on converting edge to LTE .. Not HSPA or 3g. I have a few places outside of Jacksonville (in between Orlando / Jacksonville) that were all edge... and now I can get LTE out there.

As for network build out plans .. would be nice .. but again I don't know any carrier that will lay their entire plans out for customers. The reason for this is because customers will hold them to it .. and if they can't deliver for whatever reason like weather delays on tower work, permits, approvals, etc.... people will be mad over something that they aren't promising at that time. Even though it is planned it could not pan out exactly how they like in some areas due to "red tape" or even .. themselves just messing up as companies do. So I could see how they wouldn't want to lay out plans .. just like Verizon/Sprint/AT&T doesn't tell anyone their plans for tower upgrades.

I agree with you 99%. Not saying that TMo does anything different than the other carriers regarding the fine print. But the title of this thread is what would you do with the next Uncarrier move. It would be great for TMo to offer up the most transparent plans and most transparent network build out schedule.

FWIW, Sprint's cut your bill in half is the most blatant marketing bs.

I would switch to t-mobile despite the poor network coverage if they would allow more flexible data plans. I don't use a lot of data and I don't want to be forced to select 1 gb $50 plan. If they offered say 300 MB for $30 I'd like that. Let the consumer decide how much data that want.

There is the $40 unlimited talk and text with 500mb capped. Or for $45 you could do 2gb capped.

yes but that's prepaid, I'd want this along with jump which is only available with a credit check and 0% financial option

Actually it's prepaid OR postpaid. It's called the simple starter plan. So you would be able to finance a device.
