What would you recommend for an iPhone user switching to Android?

From what I understand, HTC still hasn't even released the update to the carriers so this hold is completely on HTC.

That's something I really don't get in america. Your updates really depend on your carrier? What's the reason behind this? In germany you usually get something like an unlocked phone and the updates come from the manufacturer like it's really your phone.

Maybe because the system with subsidized phones in the US just sucks and carriers have to be a PITA. ;-)

Because the carriers put their garbage apps on our phones. Not many people buy a phone full price and get a prepaid service.

How is wifi coverage in Germany? I'm visiting next year.

I recently got the Nexus 4. Love it and don't have to wait for updates.

I'm a long time iPhone user who's looking to switch to an Android device. I've played around with the S4 & HTC One but neither of them have what I'm looking for. Problem is I don't know what I'm looking for. I'm intrigued by the Moto X but I'm worried about camera performance. I like the compact design of the X. I like the HTC One but the 4MP camera seems dated and I wonder how it's going to hold up in a two year contract. I'll be switching to AT&T so I'm also concerned about whatever I get holding up for the next 2 years and being obsolete in the next 2 years. Any suggestions?

My preferences are (in no particular order)
- Screen size under 5 inches
- Decent battery life
- Avg to good camera
- Preferably 32 GB or more of storage
- Fluid w/ little to no lag

HTC One or Moto X. Play with them both, both are good choices.
Moto = Smaller and more groovy features, camera just got better but, still not as good as others
HTC = the camera is good, no worries, beautiful screen, boomsound.

As an HTC One owner, I think the Moto X is the best Android phone for an iPhone convert. It is thinner and lighter than an HTC One, making it closer to what you are used to form factor wise. Plus you can customize its looks, which can somewhat make up for the lack of cool cases for many Android phones.

I've just moved from an iPhone 4S to a Sony Xperia Z1.
It's very fast & fluid, camera is good (but not brilliant) better if you adjust the settings, I can easy get a day out of it as long as I'm not playing many action type games, I've popped a 32Gb micro SD card in there and it's waterproof (to an extent).
Worth a look?

I would love a Sony device. Can't have one though.

I would go for the Moto X if it was available in the UK (sulky face). The Sony Z1 looks awesome! The Galaxy Note 3 is a beast but both are too big for my liking. The HTC One is nice but people have been burnt in the past when it comes to support regarding OS updates. The S4 is a great phone and is sure to be supported regarding OS updates because of it popularity. None are perfect so try before you buy. See how they feel in your hand. And check out the overall user experience. Have fun and welcome to the Darkside. :-)

At the moment it's the other way around. HTC is providing relatively fast updates and Samsung is lagging behind. Popularity means nothing to Samsung, just look what they do with 4.3 and the S3. December, seriously? ;-)

Well if you looking for something without any gimmicks and pure android, wait on the Nexus 5. It's around the corner..

Yeah. Right now HTC seems to be getting their act together recently with updates. Maybe because they want to improve their image with the One. Samsung are draging their feet. They want to sell more S4's I think....... :-|

If you are an iPhone user than i would recommend that you should stick with it, as you won't find anything better than iPhone. Perfect Screen size, easy to use and extra ordinary features. I have been an Android user, but when i switched towards iPhone 4S from my HTC OneX i found it much better!
