What's behind all the "gimme your picture" ads

So, I see these ads all over Android Central, all the other Smartphone Network sites, and pretty much every other website on earth.

You upload your picture, and they:
a) Turn it into a cartoon
b) Turn it into an old you
c) Combine it with your SO's picture and turn it into a baby.

I assume they are all the same outfit. What are they doing with all the pics they get? This is obviously a front for something, but what? Are they feeding and training a search engine? Selling them as stock photos? Hoping that one in every million is a nudie pic (and that one in a million of those is sellable)? Is this all feeding Google's neural network for a future face recognition product? Are aliens looking to harvest our DNA?

I must know, but I'm afraid to click on any of them.

Clearly, no one from Android Central wants to come here and explain what's behind their biggest advertiser.

I never see them. Likely, its based on your browser history. I see Eve Online and HTC ads everywhere ;)

Some are movie tie-ins (I only see the ads you're talking about on Facebook, there was a Simpsons one when the movie came out for example). Others just have realized that it's trivial to set up something like this and they can sell ad space. Really, the typical picture (nude or not) has pretty much no value because there's such a plethora on the Internet freely available.
