What's discharge rate of s23?

Battery on my s23, discharges much faster if I limit it to max 80% charge (battery protection), then if I put it to charge to 100%.

I don't know if you noticed this, making whole, saving battery to 80%, useless idea, when you're losing 20% NOW, and battery discharges faster.

I've also noticed this on other devices as well.
Maybe, voltage it reports in, it thinks it's 80%, like 4.0V, but it's due to charger, while it needs to saturate, to go higher % more.

I've noticed this on Xiaomi as well.

why my s23, discharges 1% per hour (accubattery)
so overnight, in 00h-06h, it lost 5%.

It seems like a feature of phone.
I've checked some logdump via *#9900*# , and it says 586 cycles and 92% health.

I know I shouldn't worry about battery. But I always thought they will improve it after some time.

I'm surprised how they've put 3785 mAh battery in s23 (reporter na android).
whilst some cheap Xiaomi, have 5000 mAh. I've had cheap Xiaomi, and it wasted through night few % as well, it's just I didn't cared, and had % display off.

But funny thing, how durable Samsung batteries actually are. because I still have j3 (2016) phone, which sitted 0% discharged for few months at least, forgotten. And, I've charged it now, to 50%, and it holds charge very well.
And I also still have 12-13 years old Samsung pocket neo, with original battery. and phone was used very very much and abused mind you. and charge still hold after all this time.

maybe rendering all this worry futile when Samsung batteries, have good materials, and will hold, and won't instantly drop % and be instable. like sudden drop from 45% to 13%

Just staying connected to the network will use up battery. 5% overnight is good.

Is it really reaching 80%? Rhetorical question. We could agree though that today's 80% is not same as 80% nearly 3 model years ago when the battery was fresh and new. Let's not forget that using this battery saver mode is not a guarantee of anything. There are still a lot of factors that go into battery health. Heat, cold, idle, use, how low it is allowed to drain, etc. What we could do is ask that this question be moved to the S23 threads and see if other users are using this method and maybe you and them could share screenshots of your battery usage to compare their battery life/health to yours. @Laura Knotek & @B. Diddy, move or no?

I don't know how well they work but there are more than a few battery health apps on the Play Store that you could use to test your battery. Speaking of, with your concern about battery life are you using any saver apps? Battery Saver, Data Saver, or what about Anti-virus or Anti-malware apps? A lot of times these Saver apps, end up costing users more than they save. This is because in order to work they have to run in the background so they are always using power, or they close apps and services on the device that the device then must restart and the back and forth again uses power that it wouldn't if just left to its own devices. Test what battery life is like with these disabled or even better uninstalled. Hard to use power if not even installed on the phone.

Personally, I tried using this feature but also abandoned it because 80% is not 100% and if I'm going to be out I'd rather not worry if I'm going to make it to a charger or my entire trip coming from a 20% deficit to begin with.

Most manufacturers don't give specs on discharge rate for batteries u seem to be doing ok with the capacity at 92%

What I've seen on my s25u and Fold 7 it charges faster to 80 then 90 or 100% setting.

kwui, do you have an actual comparison of rates of battery drainage when charging up to 100% vs 80%? In other words, how many % per hour does the battery drop in each situation? Just want to make sure that you're not perceiving a faster drain when starting at 80% simply because you're starting at a lower charge level (and therefore will obviously reach any arbitrary low threshold level faster).

For instance just yesterday, I've had it in charger at 9, and already at 15h had 30%, and also had a Google meeting with 25-20% in 17h. and it turned saver in 30% already, but I already felt anxious about it in 15h that it won't last while day, and I shouldn't use it (as I had a meeting).

So definitely not cool for me. So thats like 6 hours effective work on it.

Your WiFi is on, but the signal looks weak. Trying to stay connected to a weak wifi signal will drain the battery. Could you change the channel on your router? Perhaps there are too many other networks competing in that channel.

is, SOT meant to be 6 h like in my case? I've seen people say that's how much they get. And, someone even get 4-5h.

5 hours in 2025.
expecting me to turn off, WiFi, bluetooth, location. then just turn off whole phone...

In that case, I'm thinking about buying wireless charger then. What you think? For me it's a hassle to remember to put it in usbC, or it won't last when I go out.

I like to keep charging once a day, but it seems I will have to charge twice a day on this one.

And I know they say with wireless charge it heats up to 40C, and bad for battery. But man, 5-6h sot, is already bad battery for me.

why they put small capacities in flagships. makes you regret all that Snapdragon performance. Shouldn't they be more power efficient.

I'm just trying to charge once a day.
And if I bought some A54 or similar, they would suck too in something. maybe they would have longer battery, as they're less powerful, but who knows maybe it will have bugs.

My chanell is 6, and 20 MHz.
I guess it maybe works harder, because any other phone, don't reach well in my room at all and speeds are slow. But this s23, have good perception.

It's because where my room is positioned. I have living room on north, and my room is on southwest end of house. And in middle when you go diagonally, it's a toilet. So it goes through concrete pillar of house (in toilet), and that's at least 3-4 walls for WiFi too reach. If it was from kitchen, it would be 2 walls. But my room wall is thicker, like 20cm brick thick. And there's water installations (2-3 pipes) in toilet. And no stronger WiFi can fix this, other than having AP, but, it needs to be ethernet.

Can you clarify this? Are you saying that it drained 30% over 15 hours? Was that was no usage at all, or with some active usage?

6 hours of SOT before getting down to 30% battery seems pretty normal to me, but it's been a while since I looked closely at those numbers on my phone.

6 hours of SOT before getting down to 30% battery seems pretty normal to me, but it's been a while since I looked closely at those numbers on my phone.

the screenshot I've sent you, that was yesterday. And where you see two green bars, that reaches top, that's when it was 9h i think (hard to tell from graph, doesnt show what hour even).
And gray bars before it, was from 00h (midnight) to 6h, and then I did some browsing on it, before topping it off to 100% before going on day, so it could theoretically last me, whilst I'm out.

And then I did 1 hour of browsing until 13h (from 9h to 13h, combined), so that's like quick searches, reading stuff etc.
And then I headed out in 13h. That's where this shows most drain, I guess it's because it was sun outside, and it went in full brightness. There's also like 35minutes of chat app, and google meet was only 13 minutes. So that's really mild to say.
That's just me, reading messages while I'm outside, and responding to them.

Google meet was in 17h , but at that point, I've already had 30-25% battery. And after google meet, it dropped to 15-10%, showing red, and didnt want to touch it. I came home, at 18:00.

But it wasnt heavy usage really. I mean, I wasnt really interacting heavily with phone. So main apps are literally chrome (3h (for whole day)) , youtube was just in background (screen off), and messaging app (30 mins ).

And it can't handle that without making me anxious, will it last to end of day.

It's always a bit difficult to evaluate battery drain when looking at a graph that represents multiple charge cycles. It's easier to take one specific charge cycle -- i.e., charge up to 100%, then use the phone normally until it gets down to about 20-30%, then show the battery usage for that time period.

Also keep in mind that when you're out and about, there's more chance of encountering poor cell signal at some point, which is one of the main causes of battery drain.
