Whats going on with google play music manager?

isnt the music manager still in beta ??

oh i have no idea....i just got my first android/google phone (N4) last week. i went to setup google music and it asked me to download the manager to upload my songs. either way...hope an update comes out soon...guess i'm not the only one who is/was having problems

Patience.

It just takes a long time. Give it a couple of days. When I did it last month, I wasn't just frustrated with the pace, I was sure it was doing it wrong! I would get songs that were not with their albums, missing album artwork, albums downloading in pieces. It was a mess.

I could tell, though, that it was making progress. I checked in two days later, and everything was uploaded and properly organized. I've been really happy with the service ever since.

too late already gave up...i actually had it running for 2 days overnight...both times i woke up in the morning and it had only added like 200-300 more songs after 7-8 hrs. also it had stopped uploading and i had and still have no idea how to get it to restart from where it left off. (EDIT: let me add, it would run just fine and upload at a reasonable pace through the day. not sure why when i stop messing around on my computer all of a sudden it can only up a few hundred more songs in 8 hrs while i sleep)

as i mentioned earlier, i have had to log out, well i logged out again today, that did nothing, so then i went to "change the folder location where my music is" which i really didnt, just reselected the folder where my music is. then it started up scanning my music i guess checking the files that were already uploaded which is roughly 7,500. was taking forever and would prob still be doing so now and wouldnt even be continuing to upload songs.

i'm not exactly sure why the audio manager stopped uploading in the middle of the night...i also have no idea why its so difficult to get it to start uploading from where it left off. someone mentioned the audio manager is still in beta, if thats true then maybe its a kink/glitch they're working on. either way it needs to be easier to start back where you left off.

My computer kept going to sleep and cutting off the upload. Maybe try only queuing a couple hundred songs at a time?

my computers sleep settings has been set to off for years. i never use that setting. i double checked the other day to make sure that wasnt it

I will say that once you get the initial upload done, adding new songs is pretty quick and painless. I've added several CDs since my first upload, and Music Manager finds the new tracks almost instantly and uploads them relatively quickly in the background.

Also, as to matching, if the version you have was ripped at a higher quality than what Google has on their server, they will still upload your version. I think. Don't quote me on that. :)

Maybe it's just in my head, but I hadn't seen many posts from you lately. Good to see your name pop up again. ;)

The only suggestion I can really make at this point is to try uploading smaller sets of files at a time, and watching the results to see if you can identify why files are being skipped (if any are). Try to find a commonality between them.

Google Music has been improved as a service, but the Music Manager app is still quite unreliable in my experience. I'm now stuck in limbo halfway between Google Music and Spotify. It's strange. :-\

ehh at this point its not worth the trouble. i'd have to go through all 7,500 songs already uploaded to know which files to select that havent been uploaded. thats going to be a real pain in the butt.

"Google Music has been improved as a service, but the Music Manager app is still quite unreliable in my experience"
which makes no sense, seeing as the only way to upload songs is through the music manager. if there were a way to say drag drop folders from my PC into say my browser at the google music site...would be much easier IMO.

I am very perturbed by the fact that to access google music, I must give them a credit card number? So, I can't download music manager without getting to google music, and I can't get to google music because I don't want to give them a credit card number. I already gave you $350 for the phone, now you mandate that I attach a credit card to a google music account, and hope I am enticed in to purchasing from google music. And since I don't want to attach the credit card, I am not allowed to put the music off my PC on to the computer.

Very obnoxious marketing tactic Google. I would expect better from you.

wow this is getting even stranger....

decided to get back at it...

it starts out saying 0 of 700 songs uploaded...it starts doing its thing, now mind you it isnt actually uploading...no songs with their %'s are down below...well that goes quite fast it gets to 700....the green bar is just about to the end...and its still going now at 984 and counting songs uploaded...again...but no songs are actually being uploaded.

i seriously have no idea WTF is going on.

EDIT: still going now at 1325 songs uploaded...again nothing actually being uploaded. its also slowed to a major crawl...this is what i mean by i feel its checking to see whats been uploaded and what hasnt from my music library/folder...but its taking forever...you would figure it could snap through that in just a few seconds. again i dont know if thats what its actually doing or not. if it is...it will spend all night just doing that, before it gets back to MAYBE actually uploading songs where it left off.

this is an absolute joke....i think i'll just get rid of everything off google music and just wait and hope some kind of fix is announced/comes along.

it's doing music match. If it goes fast, it's found a match on google play and just used that so no data needs to transfer. When it goes slow it's actually uploading.

ehh it still was taking way to long...also it shouldnt have to match anything...it should continue uploading where it left off....

i dont plan on using their cloud service at this point. maybe they'll figure it out later down the road

your choice but once I had everything up in the locker, it's really nice to be able to go to any of my devices (phone, tablet) and computers (web browser) and have all my songs, playlists available and everything "synced"

not sure if you read the thread or not....problem is i cant get everything loaded....music manager keeps screwing up. have yet to hear a solution from anyone other than uploading batches at a time instead of all at once

also the google match thing they have recognizes about 24 songs of mine and then starts uploading the rest....so its not very fast and takes forever.

if you have any recommendations on what to do to help solve the issue, i'd love to hear it.

EDIT: i'm going to restart this whole process over tonight, let it run...see how it goes. i'll say again i just started it up...and again recognized with its match service like 24 songs...its now uploading the rest. again will take awhile. if this thing stops in the middle of the night again...i'm officially through with it.

let me ask this: for those who have uploaded their large library of music...how many songs did the google match thing match out of your library?

only about 800. the uploading took multiple days for me and numerous re-uploads which had to be done like this:

* copy the songs into a different folder outside the linked folder
* delete songs from original folder
* add folder to google music
* with remaining, not-uploaded songs, repeat steps

This is a really basic question, but how, exactly, does one upload their music from their PC to the "cloud" ? I cannot find this most basic step described anywhere in the Nexus or google help files, and I have spent hours looking. I am frustrated, I am not a computer nerd or young person who just knows this stuff, so some help please? I would like to listen to my music on my N7 while I travel. Much appreciate it.

Install Google Music Manager on your PC.

I'm having problems with Google Music too. Music Manager says all files are uploaded BUT nothing shows up online. You'd think 3+ weeks after calling Google about it that they would have a solution or just reset my account.

Heads up: some of you might find gmusicapi to be useful.

Basically, it's an open source substitute for what the Music Manager is doing behind the scenes. If you're comfortable writing code to upload your music, it'll be much more transparent than the Music Manager.

Whatbox has an example upload script for linux users.

I've been using Google Music for a couple of years now, and honestly, I find it to be quite complicated... and very touchy. I mean, you have to make sure everything is perfect before you begin uploading. Then you have to completely leave it alone until it's done. As far as I know, it does not delete songs from the cloud that you delete from your library. Also, I just noticed another screwy thing. I signed out a half hour ago and immediately signed back in (because it had only uploaded 15K of my 19K songs, yet said it was done). Now it says it's uploading hundreds of songs, but doesn't show me what it's uploading, nor are the new songs (hopefully new, and not duplicates) showing up on the site. I've had many problems with having to reinstall music manager, only for it to try to upload my whole collection again, creating thousands of duplicates. So I'm not so sure it's not doing the same thing right now. The least it could do is consistently show you what songs are currently being uploaded. Yesterday it was showing them to me. Today it's not.

I have no idea why Google can't just make it like Drive, where the folders are perfectly synced. Any changes in the cloud show up locally, and vice versa.
