What's the deal with inventory?

Bit of backstory - I fell/tripped at the beginning of January with my Blackberry Priv in hand. On landing (Crashing, really) the phone broke. I attempted to use my accidental care from Blackberry and the company backing it had no blackberry privs in stock. About two weeks ago I gave up on waiting for them to get inventory and decided to give in and buy a Pixel. A task that now seems impossible.

So, I've been without a phone of any sort for nearly 2 months and my patience is wearing thin. I realize there's no one here who can snap fingers and voila, google has inventory, but jeez louise... Is there some shortage on storage components? The 5" 128 gb has been out of stock for quite a while. :(

Amazing right? Having finally given up on WP I was ready to go all in on Google, getting a 128GB Pixel XL and joining Project Fi. After weeks of checking I'm now typing this on an iPhone 6S plus. Has Google made any public statements on this? TV ads galore, but not a peep about the lack of availability. Crazy.

Do Verizon customers have to wait a long time?

I saw ship dates on vzw.com with 3/07/17 ; however I have cricket.. I'd jump if it weren't so expensive.

I ordered mine 12/22 (silver 128gb XL on Verizon) and got it on Valentine's day. Well worth the wait, but still a tad ridiculous. This is Google right?

This is pretty much the same in the UK the XL has been out of stock at Google store for pretty much all of the time the phone has been out pretty ridiculous

Are you trying to order through a carrier?

The 128GB 5" is in stock on google store.

I have the XL but wanted to get my wife the regular but never in stock for 128GB. Kinda stupid if you ask me. No way could not have beefed up production since October. I can't imagine how many sales they have lost. Why spend so much for advertising if never available. I wonder if the whole plan was limited Pixel 1 release to guage interest and go all out for Pixel 2???

Ahh, was gonna say I got 2 in the mail yesterday (ordered last Sat). However I'm in the US, and ordered both phones when I signed up for Google Fi.

Does not show that for me. Says all 5" are out of stock.

Hmmm this is what it shows for me:

The only one out of stock is the 128GB XL. However I am in Canada. I guess they use separate inventory for the Pixel between US and Canada. I'm pretty sure when I ordered my Nexus 5 a few years ago they all came from US inventory.

@tbonecopper, i feel your frustration. I think Google simply underestimated the stock amount needed to meet demand. Maybe the manufacturing process takes longer than normal? Only Google can really give us a straight answer. I read an article on Seeking Alpha that stated

Pixel sales number may seem incredibly low compare to those of its competitor, but this appears to be an issue of limited production rather than low demand. In fact, Google announced that Pixel saw high demand and sold out a majority of its variants. This leads us to believe the phone sales have been inhibited by poor inventory management.

Hopefully some Pixels comes in stock soon. It's never nice being without phone. :(

The lack of inventory turned my brother away from getting a Pixel. He went into Verizon thinking he could get a 128GB XL right then and there at the store on Friday, and unbeknownst to him, they never had the 128GB XL in stock at the store. He purchased the 128GB iPhone 7 Plus instead that's all he could get in the size and storage options that he wanted.

I'm with Bell and they had the one I wanted (just a 5" black 32gb but still) was in stock when I went there.
Boom. Done.

On a positive note he got the best alternative which is up to date just like Pixel, provides buttery smooth experience and not bogged down by carriers.

May be this year was just an experiment from Google to see how people repsond to the idea of iPhone, flagship Galaxy level pricing. Probably they were not confident enough to go all in and one can only hope next year will be better.
