Whats the point of the Galaxy Fold phones?

I was under the impression that the Fold phones were standard phone size but could be unfolded to the size of a tablet. Yet on videos/pics Ive seen people are cradling the phone in one hand unfolded. I wouldnt call that tablet sized at all. accoding to the specs its barely an inch bigger than a Note. Tablets screen in comparison to phones are far bigger than an inch in difference. If thats all you get why even have a fold when you can get a Note and pay $1000 less?

Finally someone asking the real questions!

I don’t get it either. I mean almost the entire time Sʌᴍsᴜɴɢ was showing the Z flip 3 (such stupid names BTW) they basically talked about the external screen the entire time LOL. So if you’re using the external screen so much, what’s the point of the phone folding?

Sʌᴍsᴜɴɢ and these other manufacturers are seriously searching for a solution to a problem no one has except “boredom” with phones.

Again, when the note first came out it was ridiculed also and look at it now, people are whining that it might go away because people love it now. Every year people moved to the note because it got better and better. People want bigger screens, the note reached it's limit of size, the fold answered that want, and most people use the fold open most the time, they use it closed for on the go replys, quick search, it brings best of both worlds to a phone, smaller one handed option and big screen when you want it.

As for the worry of losing the note, I don't think it's going anywhere, just renamed to the S series, probably S Pro. The note and S series have basically been the same phone for several years now. Samsung has made it clear they are moving the Spen to a accessory and not built in, which is a mistake IMO.

Saves me buying a new laptop. I already do everything on my Note9.

The price isn't my problem. It is the weight. My current phone can practically pull my jeans down when added in with keys, wallet etc. It is kind of thick to carry in the back pocket too.

If there were a new Note scheduled I wouldn't even be tempted... but since there isn't it is kind of in my head to buy one.
I ridiculed the fold very hard when it came out. Decided to buy fold 2 on swappa to try it out, worse case I wouldn't like it and resell it, maybe lose a $100. It took some getting used to the front screen, but I love the fold. One handed use on the front screen, just flip it for a bigger screen when I want it. It will definitely be a learning curve to the thicker when it's folded, but it was also why the wider body on the notes.

I will activate my note 20U to change it up, I don't make it a day before going back to the fold. That's me though, I hated the note as they were getting to wide, so everyone is different. I think note users need to just accept it's getting rebranded to the S series, it really isn't going away, which they were basically the same phone anyway, Spen was basically the difference between the 2 anymore. I don't see Samsung releasing 3 flagship phones, just my opinion

How does the fold work in terms of seamless screen extension? Is it not possible to just have two phones that work to extend their screen space together, or maybe one master and one slave, and then have some sort of folding case to contain them, to achieve some of the same results?

I have ZERO interest in a foldable phone. First I don't like the size of the phone folded or unfolded. Second just seems like another point of failure. I am pretty sure that Samsung is going to miss their Fall revenue boost they normally get from the Note Series. I just don't see anywhere close to the interest in the Fold series.

I guess my next phone will probably be the PixelPro if the rumored memory options are true. Since Samsung has now returned to 6 series folly of going Apple by removing SD Cards so they can force users to pay for more expensive options, I might as well move to Google. I see nothing compelling anymore from Samsung.

Who know, maybe after they lose their Fall revenue boost they will get rid of the clown who suggested doing away with the Note series and provide a Note 21 next year.

SD card is almost useless on new phones, they are incredibly slow, less than 1/10th the speed of internal storage. It slows everything on the phone down, Samsung didn't like having them years ago because it hurts the performance of their phones when compared to iPhone. It's why they blocked the installation of apps and severely limited their use.

Now we've hit a point where they aren't fast enough to use for camera storage. They don't have high enough write speeds so everything saves to internal storage. If you transfer the media to the card, it slows the gallery and every single app that accesses it.

For my needs they work great. Use them for Music and media. I don't need fast storage for these needs. Great part is now that Samsung has joined Apple and repeating their folly with the S6 series i feel more freedom. The PixelPro looks like my next phone.

The Pixel doesn't have an SD card either

You say joined Apple but I don't think anyone offers an SD Card anymore, Samsung was the last hold out to my knowledge.(At least in the states).

Last phone I used an SD card in was the S7 and it was to store music and videos to watch, then I got unlimited data and phones began shipping with 128Gb storage standard so I've had no use.

They are losing market share hand over fist....so much so that Samsung HQ sent out their review group to see what's going on with the mobile division. It sounds like they're not doing something right lol.
