So i pretty much going to stay Loyal to Samsung for my next phone. I am going to hold on my Fascinate until a Galaxy S2 comes around. Although i may purchase a Nexus S as a supplemental phone to have something to play with.

Chris / Cory, anythoughts After your fascinate experience are you going to hold off for a beefed up version of the S or are you open to something else.

Well considering the nexus S is a samsung phone and its basically a retooled galaxy S phone Im holding out for a dual core phone next year as I think the Nexus S was just too overhyped the only good thing it has going for it is stck android and no carrier updates but thats what we have the Dev community for

I think if the Nexus S shows us anything is that Google will be punching these phones out once a year. If we wait a year we'll get the next great phone with the latest version of Android on it. I'm not so sure I want another Samsung phone because they seem to take a while to push out updates. I'll wait and see how often the Nexus S gets updates. My next phone has to have 4G speeds which is another reason why I'm not getting the Nexus S.

You know I hate to defend Samsung yet again, but, their goal is to sell am obscene amount of phones this coming year. I believe that with their recent success, partnership with google, and their lofty goals that Samsung will beef up and improve their Dev team and things will improve. Logically they can't expect to maintain that type of growth without software. That being said I having a feeling the phones they are planning for 2011 will have some monster specs. I'm excited.

Can you explain this part?

I want to get this phone to tinker with, flash roms etc....i need a phone to use for daily use that is always ready to go and a phone that I can play with and not worry about syncing contacts our what not

I'm kinda torn right now what to do with the upgrades on my plan. I have one more left on my line, but already have the phone I want right now. So I can't decide if I use that to get another Fascinate as a gift for someone else, or hold onto it to be able to get the next great phone whenever it comes out. If I use it, I have 2 years before I get another.

I haven't had this phone nearly long enough for me to give a definitive answer, plus it's going to depend on what's out there once I am ready to upgrade. Hopefully by then we'll have the dual core phones to choose from.

Gotcha.

I think like most of the others, I will wait to see what is released when it comes time to upgrade. Personally, 4g is not a big thing to me. I don't really care if my next phone is 4g or not (it would be nice, but not a top priority to me, and I don't wanna spend alot extra to use it.) I would like a dual core, and I do like Samsung, but I will see what is out when the time comes.

I know it is all speculation at this point how samsung will do regarding updates but htc and moto both had room to improve there at first. It always felt like forever when we got a release on my original droid and that was without any custom skin to contend with. Ask an eris user about updates. Updates on my wife's dinc were slow at first too. Let's hope samsung has a similar trajectory in ramping up support.

Im locked in til 2012 and I have no reason to buy out of my contract. I enjoy the Fascinate, just gotta fix the screen. I have googlized it, removed bloatware, etc. Love the phone.

By next June I am going to have to get some version of a world phone so I can take it to Europe. There should be gobs of new android phones by then. Hopefully enough of the cool ones will also be world phones. I want more than just being able to do wifi over there.

Oh yeah that was you sorry lol i forgot about that post, did you decide what you are going to do to fix it?

Samsung Fascinate i500 LCD + Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement

thinking of going with that. after shipping it'll be about 100 bucks.

they have a vid on there of someone taking off the screen and it looks pretty simple. im going to show the vid to someone more mechanical than me, because i'll mess it up even though it looks simple.

Well im not do for and upgrade until 2012 so im waiting till then and will start reading up on what is the best phone out. But if if there is about to be a OS update coming I will wait until a phone drops with the new os. And it will have to have Verizons lte

It was actually tropolis. I'm not sure what he decided to do. It would be hard to look at a beautiful phone like this with a cracked screen for 20 months, so I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

I am loving my fascinate, but if the smart phone gods are listening, this is what I want:

1) 4" sAMOLED screen, 2) slider physical keyboard like the Merge, 3) step up in camera (not necessarily more MP, but better with moving subjects like my 4 year old and would be willing to carry a thicker phone if it was a good enough camera to completely abandon the point and shoot...can they somehow leverage the thickness of a phone with a slider to squeeze in a better camera without further increasing thickness?), 4) stock android...no custom skins, 5) easily rootable, 6) faster OS updates like Nexus, 7) improved battery life (~ +20% over fascinate would be great for me), 8) aluminum body (no plastic), 9) gorilla glass

So basically sounds like a Nexus S with a physical keyboard and potentially a few other upgrades. Which begs the question...why did the original Nexus never come to Verizon? Just because of CDMA? Will Nexus S ever come to Verizon?
