WhatsApp Chat History Backup and Restore

Hi All,

Any free way to backup all your WhatsApp chat history from and iPhone and restore on Android, needless to say on Pixel 2 XL.

Whatever I have found so far costs around $20 just for such a tiny task, and if I ever switch back, pay $$ again for the other way around.

I've only moved from Android to android and WhatsApp syncs across each time, including the chat history. not sure why it's different from Apple to Android

I've tried to search for a free solution but i gave up after a few hours. A lot of "free" guides but they do not work. Ended up using wazzapmigrator

I’ve had to use it for work purposes and when I use it on an Android or iPhone, it always restores from a backup.

From android to android - backup chats from whatsapp settings to google drive. It should ask to restore when you setup whats app on the new device. Not sure if that works with iphone to android.

Android-to-Android works very similar to iPhone-to-iPhone. I have done iPhone-to-iPhone for years, it backs up all the chat history and media to iCloud and restores from there directly on the new iPhone.

The challenge here is iPhone-to-Android and vice versa

Since WhatsApp does its backup/restore to/from Google Drive I don't see what the issue would be - do a backup before you switch platforms, restore after getting everything ready.
If that doesn't work correctly then there's some incompatibility between the file contents between platforms, and that would be a poor programming decision on the part of the WhatsApp team.

Problem is WhatsApp on iOS backs up to iCloud and Android to Google drive. So they don't work when switching between platforms. I don't know why they just can't use Google drive back on both platforms and be done with it. Works great when switching between phones within the same platform, but between iOS and Android it doesn't.

Well, my bad - my lack of iOS knowledge at work once again. Google Drive is available on iOS though, isn't it? Can't you specify that as the backup destination?
At a minimum this is worth filing a complaint with the WhatsApp development team.

Yeah only option is iCloud backup from within the iOS whatsapp app. There isn't an option to choose for backup destination.

Yup, I had to use the wazzap tool from the play store, it was worth the price moving from iOS to Android

Wish I knew about this tool when I migrated.

So, now I have been using Whatsapp on my Pixel for a few months now. My old iPhone is still sitting around in Airplane mode which means I have access to the Whatsapp chat history on it. If I use this Wazzapp now, backup from iPhone and restore on Pixel 2, will it append the chat history in every group or completely override them? If override, I will lose all my latest chat history on Pixel.

I'm pretty sure it will overwrite, but I agree contact the developers of WazzapMigrator tool
