WhatsApp notification sound

I'm trying to have a different notification sound for Gmail and WhatsApp (which are the majority of my notifications) I've tried changing the notification tone within WhatsApp but it still just uses the standard tone set in the phone settings which is the same for Gmail.

I feel I am missing something. I've tried holding the icon and going to notifications from there but I am not getting an option for sound.

I don't mind which app has its sound changed. I just want them to be different!

Try going to...

(Phone) Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Notifications > Message notifications > Sound > select your custom notification sound

Thanks. It's weird as the tone that it says is set for notifications is the one I want. But its not playing that tone. It plays the default notification sound!!!

Try clearing the cache in Apps for Whatsapp if you have not done so.

I tried that today but its still the default notification. I feel like I'm missing something here!

I think there's a glitch for WhatsApp for Android 11 for the s20/21.

I can't silence my WhatsApp notifications. It keeps ringing when I get a new message. under notifications, EVERYTHING is on silent. But when I get a message, it'll still beep.

Only way is to mute everything. But that wasn't the case when I was using my s10

Actually. I think I figured it out.

Most of my WhatsApp notifications come from groups. I hadnt noticed that further down notifications within WhatsApp there was a separate option for group tones!

Changed that and it worked!!
