When I answer a call can I talk through the watch

So, I don't want to sound like a nerd......but can I talk directly into my Gear S2 watch like they do in the movies?

Yes, as long as your phone is connected to the watch by Bluetooth.

I've read mixed details on this. I've heard only the 3G model has the mic and speaker.

The gear s you could easily on the 3g model and the 3g model is also advertised as independent so yes.

I have the original Gear and I am able to have a conversation using my watch as long as it is connected to my phone. This has been a great feature when I have left my phone in my office and still able to answer using my watch as long as I don't wander too far. The newer Gear S has its own Sim card so it does not need the phone.

Yeah on another question that calling works with the 3g model but idk if the regular model does.

According to the videos I've seen the Bluetooth version does NOT support speaking into the watch. It says you can dial from or answer a call from the watch but it will be taken on the phone. This is a huge step backwards for Samsung Smart watch in my opinion but maybe they did that to get people to buy the 3g version. I just want to make sure the 3g has a mic and speaker and doesn't require Bluetooth headphones. I love being able to use my gear s as a total stand alone.

If this is true, I'm definitely not buying it. I was going to go in this weekend and replace my gear 2 for this, but I'm not willing to give up the ability to answer calls on my watch. It's great for multitasking.

The instructional video on the classic says the call can't be taken on the watch, it is only on the mobile device (phone). Massive step backwards on this IMO. The quality of the watch speakerphone on the Gear 2 is astounding, and while I don't use it often, when the circumstances allow for it, it's phenomenal. If the Gear S2 had this functionality I might have picked one up today, but now I'm going to wait and see how the S2 3G compares to the Urbane 2.

It does not have a speaker. I just bought one and I am returning it.
Why would you make a watch that you can not talk on? If I am going to take out my phone I don,t need a watch.
It is one beautiful watch.

Answering a call
Drag to the right to answer a call.
The call feature will automatically launch on your mobile device. Use your mobile device to have a conversation.
If the voice control feature is activated, say “Answer” to answer the call. Refer to Call for more information.

strange, there is no drag to the right option when I get a call, only a drag to the left to reject the call.

I REALLY wish I knew this yesterday. I got the Note 7 which came with the gear fit 2 watch with a pre-order through Best Buy. I already had the Samsung Gear S (the one with the nice curved screen, got so many compliments) and I sold it on OfferUp. Then I set up my new watch, the gear fit 2, and realize it doesn't have my favorite frickin feature, the ability to answer a call and speak into it (great for driving). Also I'm 27 and in good shape I don't care about all the fitness stuff like heart rate monitor, step counter etc. I just want to be able to take calls, read+respond to texts, and check the time.

After a few days now I can comfortably say for me the Gear S is a MUCH better Smartwatch than the gear fit 2. I just assumed the newer model would have all the same features, plus new ones. Guess I should have done my research.

Not a fair comparison. The Gear S should be compared to the Gear S2 NOT the Gear fit2. The S2 has the feature you are seeking, the Fit is slightly less feature rich

I had a complete conversation on my watch while my phone was locked in my car. I used it for a multiple person conference call. You can tall to your watch

Some things are pretty weird.......
I can listen to music through a G3 based Geasr S2 - love this feature. But calls cannot be answered through bluetooth headset for watch - it by default picks it up on the speaker - so you have to speak through speaker and microphone of the watch - bluetooth headset works ONLY for music !!! how weird....!!
I tried calling and receiving calls on the S2.

Any tips/tricks to receive calls over bluetooth headset connected to watch?

Also, if anyone cares.... the S-Voice commands do NOT work - when music is playing over speakers - but commands DO work - if music is being played over bluetooth !! What is this logic?
