When I view certain pictures, the G4 cheats and enhances them on the device.

Hi all,

Not that this is a bad thing, but, when I look at certain photos I notice the screen starts updating in vertical columns and enhances the sharpness of photos and editing highlights to edges of objects in the photo.

Only reason I say the device is cheating is the image may not look as good once downloaded.

I noticed this also on the display at the store, but another G4 I had before this one did not do this or it was just not obvious.

Any one else notice this or is it just me?

It's not enhancing them. It just takes a sec to scale the pic to the display resolution when flipping through the pics in the gallery, etc.

You will notice that as you flip through large resolution pictures, they appear blurry (less detailed) for a second before they scale and appear to look enhanced (what you are seeing).

Mine does it also, especially when loading pics from the SD card. It's normal. :)

It freaks me out as it looks like the screen is having an issue since it looks like transparent white vertical bands that add white highlights to the images.

Thanks

It got me at first too. I was like WTF?? Now that I see what it actually is, it doesn't bother me.

It's dealing with a 16MP image scaling down to a 3MP screen... I'd be surprised if it didn't take a moment or two to do the down scaling. What you're seeing is the phone's way of showing you the image as it "builds" it rather than show you a black screen and then hitting you with the whole thing.

You'll also find that your computer screen will show you things that you wouldn't see on the phone, such as pieces that are out of focus or minor motion blur.
