Android Central Question

Hello, I have a Samsung s20 5G, when I select a content to share it, for example a photo in the gallery, I am shown a screen with "nearby contacts, immediately below 4 contacts: two of wa, one of messages, one of google duo.none of these 4 contacts are chosen by me and none of the 4 are among the most used, indeed they seem to be chosen at random.

Since in the old versions of android this space was occupied by the most used contacts, now it is embarrassing to explain that this is no longer the case, also because I cannot determine the logic with which they are placed.

No need for embarrassment. I believe this is a learning curve for the device. It seems that with each update certain things get reset and the device has to learn all over again. For me the suggestions are similar to yours, kind of random and to and for different apps. Most of the people listed are ones that I frequently share with but there are some random ones as well. I've also noticed that they change based on the potential shared content. For example I wanted to share from a meme app earlier and it suggested Snap Chat which I almost never use but a contact that I frequently share with was listed. So was Google trying to show off that I may have more options for sharing than I know or was it trying to learn my sharing habits? I'd say a bit of both.

I believe over time it will improve.

The share menu is an abomination. I want to share to Twitter, use to be at top, now it stays at bottom - plus - there is now a drop down list of 4 actions, to get to a normal Tweet.

This started before Android 11. Hoped it would get fixed.

Lots of options I don't use. One thing about iOS you can edit and hide many, change the order. Instead Google/Samsung went backwards. The phone isn't "smart" and it decides what I can do or not do.

Thanks to the OP for this post and I agree with Gayle Lynn that the share menu is brutal.

Any suggestions on a fix/work around would be welomed.

Hi, welcome to AC!

On my Note 20U , looks like first row is from recent apps I used and recommended to share, the 2nd row is apps that would Normally share, and last to share with any apps. No way to set what you want .Screenshot_20210107-112409_Android%20System.jpeg

Share certainly seems like it should be something we can personalize. I agree it's a mess and has been for a long time. Even if it suggests the right contact, it suggests email when I primarily use SMS, etc. Terrible.

I can agree on that , why they never thought to leave to users to tweak beyond me .

Yes. And the app/contact it suggests is useless. For example, my email app will be shown, but the contact is someone I emailed once, 5 years ago.

Putting in my 2 pennies to say that I very much agree that the Share is all but useless to me right now.

On account of it, I've actually fat-fingered the wrong person because there was a delay in updating my Share list and by the time I clicked on the contact, the list updated and I clicked on someone else.

Also, it isn't smart about choosing apps either. I share primarily through Skype and SMS, but it keeps pushing me to DM on Twitter. This is dumb because for one, none of my phone or SMS or Skype contacts is on Twitter and for two, I don't use DMs.

I feel like my Share is prioritizing social engagements over practical ones and I don't like it.
