When if ever will any single tablet out sell the Ipad

A general question. At what point will a single tablet actually outsell the IPad? I have no questions as to whether the combined sales of all will out sell it. That should be a given. However does anyone think that it is possible for a single model to do this? Also any ideas as to what features would this tablet have to have? Things like USB ports, camera, sd card slot, memory-how much, printing, etc.
Or is it a question of software/apps? What role does weight play? I guess in short my question is is it possible for any one tablet to wow the vast majority of us.

Look forward to your answers

If Microsoft created their own tablet with Windows 8 and marketed it as a desktop replacement/extension... then and only then would it be possible. No single Android tablet will ever accomplish this since the Android market is flooded with tablets currently.
If the Windows slate is stylish and powerful it will sell. No doubt about it.

It's hard to say. There are a lot of tablet options instead of 1 iPad with different colors and storage. There are also a LOT of idiots who prefer a company who limits their options, so it may never happen.

After reading an article on AndroidPolice about Android tablets, I'm in firm belief that the only tablet that would outsell an iPad would be a Windows 8-based device.

Android is filled with too many tablets right now with the exact same specs and very few differences. Yes, the Toshiba Thrive has full ports but everything else about it is the same...the Archos G9s have a different processor that runs at 1.5GHz so that's something but...

This isn't to discredit Android tablets as they ARE just starting out and if the SGS2 is any indication, tablets will get better with time. But for now, I think they're at a stalemate.

Both iOS tablets and Android tablets are at risk for Win8 coming along and taking up a good chunk of the market IF it is good.

Once Amazon releases a tablet running Android with their services mixed in I think they have a shot.

The iPad killer tablet if it were released *today* would be this IMO:

1. Thinner than the iPad and lighter -- with an excellent build quality that incorporates a mostly metal design--not plastic.

2. Connectivity options that include LTE/Wimax/3G across multiple carriers in one model. That is, no need to purchase an AT&T version or a Verizon version etc. Just choose your data plan on the carrier you want in a particular area. Also, true month to month plan *without* a contract or "activation fees".

3. A high(er) resolution screen that is bright enough to view outdoors and does not wash out.

4. Netflix app which allows you to download movies offline for viewing later--a necessity in the age of capped data and overage charges. The Lenovo Ideapad will have this apparently.

5. A price that matches or beats the iPad.

6. Timely OS updates from the manufacturer which release OTA no more than 2 weeks after being released by Google.

Many of these features can be found in existing Android tablets, but there is not a single one that incorporates all. This would be my dream Android tablet and I'd line up for this one. :)

Where did you read about the ability to download movies offline? I haven't been able to find the info.

According to Engadget:

Lenovo's Android 3.1-powered IdeaPad K1 tablet hands-on (video) -- Engadget

No, not Netflix. Netflix. It's the next Netflix, and it's launching exclusively (at least for an undetermined amount of time) on Lenovo tablets. According to the outfit, the K1 is outfitted with a hardware DRM module that will enable Watch Instantly material to not only be streamed over HDMI without any hackeration, but also to be stored locally on the device. That's a completely new option for Netflix, and it'll create a new button to press within the app. We're told that files can be socked away on the internal flash storage or on a microSD slot, and due to whole "hardware DRM" requirement, the Honeycomb tablet you purchased last week won't be able to handle such goodness with a simple firmware update.

I assume that files stored locally can be viewed offline--but I now realize they did not come out and say that. Perhaps someone with this tablet can confirm?
