When on call in Speaker mode volume is the same as normal mode on Google Pixel 8 Pro

When taking a call I usually press the speaker option so I don't have to have the phone to my head. Whilst on a call the volume suddenly went down to the same volume that it would be in normal mode. Subsequent calls have the same problem. So I went onto YouTube to play some music but the sound is fine playing full volume so it can't be a clogged speaker. So does anyone know if this is setting on the Google Pro . I have been through the settings but can't find an obvious setting.

When this happens, what does the call volume slider show when you go to adjust it? Does the slider itself actually go down as well?

Double check if it's still on speaker phone sometimes I have my Bluetooth ear buds connected and use speaker it will default to earbud
