When will we see fix for mobile broswer issue?

There's a solution for the problem. Download Dolphin HD. If the average consumer feels that's too difficult they'll vote with their dollars. If Google or Motorola think that's keeping people away in droves, they'll change it.

Do you really believe the browsing experience is what's keeping people from buying Xooms? If Google fixed the issue today, how many more Xooms would they sell?

My assumption is the folks on this board aren't average consumers. And even though the solution of "download Dolphin HD" may seem a stretch for the average consumer, I think you'd be surprised.

Bottom line, at least to me, is fixing the browser is a "nice to have". There are bigger fish to fry if they want to sell more units. Especially since there is a valid work around.

This is the only line that I agree with. And only partially. I agree that the fix that has been suggested would be "nice to have" and nothing more. It is not stopping me from using and loving my Xoom or referring it to other people. And yes, there are bigger fish to fry in regards to mass adoption. But while "just download Dolphin" is a workaround, it is not a valid workaround. I love Dolphin. I have it on both my phone and Xoom. But that doesn't make it the appropriate fix.

Hello,
I got a Xoom on Sunday and have been using it just over the past 24 hours. One of my top reasons for purchasing the Xoom was for browsing. I had read the forums before purchasing it, and I knew about the "mobile" issue. But I thought there was a way to set it permanently to stop going back to mobile mode.

Google should issue an update for this. All the marketing for Honeycomb says it is geared towards tablets, not small phones.

I really want to like the Xoom, but this and a couple of other issues is ruining it for me.

Thanks,
Matthew

GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL IT iS NOT A SIMPLE FIX BY GOOGLE......

So, the fact that you want to be ignorant and say, "google fix my issue and render desktop mode" isnt going to cut it. why dont you do some more research and figure this out instead of complaining like a child because you don't get what you want.

I've been very impressed with the Androidcentral community until this. I do hope the moderators see fit to delete your offensive post.

Honeycomb was billed as the first Android release geared towards tablets. As such, it should act as a tablet-focused OS, not a phone-based one. How Web sites appear or are rendered by Honeycomb is pretty important. Whether it's a simple fix or not, it is a problem that needs to be addressed.

You can insult me all you want. But I'm making a reasonable point, one that most "regular" users will probably agree with.

Thanks,
Matthew

I don't really consider using an entirely different program a valid workaround. It's like saying that a valid workaround to having a flat tire is to take the bus.

This issue obviously is not the source of any problems the Xoom is having on the marketplace. It is, however, a source of constant annoyance to me and many other current Xoom users.

I started this thread just to find out whether anyone had any information on the status of the issue: is Motorola aware of it? Have they released any information about when/whether they are working on fixing it? I did not expect anyone to actually be opposed to fixing the problem.

Yes it is. As you put it, "Google could just make it so your default browser rendered specifically for desktop."

Now, yes Google could just make it so your default browser rendered specifically for desktop but that isnt helping these companies and their marketing by providing false information.

So you're telling me I should accept sub-par performance on my device in order to help companies gather marketing information? That is definitely not a trade off I'm willing to make. I couldn't care less about whether a company can figure out what kind of device I am using when I view their web page.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm done with this thread. Agree to disagree and all that.
