Last year they were unveiled at separate events.

To my knowledge, the Droids were unveiled first, last year. Do you know the time frame between each unveiling?

The Droid lineup for VZW was released at the end of July 2013. The Moto X was released at the end of August of 2013. We all know that Droids are in the works, but they clearly decided to switch things up this year.

My hope with the Droids is that whomever is responsible for designing them learns what a human hand looks like, and tries to create a device that suits it. The Droids are just some ugly, uncomfortable phones to use...

I briefly owned the G2 and while it was larger it felt smaller and thinner because of the curved back.

Yes, the G2 was a surprise for me in that regard. I never owned it, but I played with it in the store. The HTC One and the Moto X are phones that are designed properly. You can handle a bigger screen comfortably if you're able to hold the phone properly. Some designers simply don't get that, and instead create flat rectangles and expect us to buy it.

while I agree the droid maxx is a little on the bulky side . it has been by far the best phone ive owned. and ive tried just about everything that comes out. its just hard to beat the battery life and the signal is great as well. if they would just improve the camera I would be all set.

Yes, the Maxx battery life is great. I wasn't commenting on that so much. Just the design. I tend not to buy new phones every year; I like to hold on to them as long as I can. If you constantly have to charge your phone, the battery wears down, and on most phones, it can't be replaced. The great thing about the Maxx is you can go 2-3 days without having to recharge (and I'm not a very heavy user). I was almost tempted to buy it for the battery, but the comfort and experience of the Moto X made me go in that direction.

I owned both the htc1 and the g2 . the htc1 is a nice phone but the button to turn the screen on being way up top was deal breaker. the g2 I really wanted to love but I never could get the knock on feature to work reliably. I never tried the x due to the screen being to small . the maxx just comes closest to being perfect for my use.

don't get me wrong im not saying the maxx is perfect or better than anything else its just better for me. if the new x gets good battery life I might go that way.

After being spoiled by the huge battery life of the Maxx it's hard to go to anything smaller. It makes me feel like anything with a battery smaller than 3000 has a baby battery.

I'm still nursing my Droid Razr Maxx because of the battery. Had a Moto X (2013), but the battery life was impossible to get used to.
I realized living in low signal strength area that also experiences a couple of power outages a year, battery life away from a charger was really most important to me. But factory resets and even CyanogenMod 11 are not breathing enough life back, time to get serious about pinning down a new phone...
